Long Point State Park – Thousand Islands is a state park located at the northeast tip of Point Peninsula on Lake Ontario's Chaumont Bay. The park is located in the Town of Lyme in Jefferson County, New York. The park was established by New York State in 1913 as part of the St. Lawrence Reservation. Park description Long Point State Park is open from early May to Columbus Day, and offers a playground, picnic tables and pavilions, showers, a boat launch, a campground with 86 sites for tents and trailers, and sheltered fishing in Chaumont Bay. Three Mile Bay, New York
Three Mile Bay is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Lyme in Jefferson County, New York, United States. The elevation is . As of the 2010 census it had a population of 227. The hamlet has its own post office, a volunteer fire company, and boat launches for fishing and recreation in the various outlying bays that draw from Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence seaway. History The community was settled between 1810 and 1820. Early resident Asa Wilcox built 48 brigs, propellers, schooners, and other seafaring vessels from 1835 to 1853. Some of these vessels, like the '' A.E. Vickery'', ultimately joined the more than 500 shipwrecked vessels now resting at the bottom of the St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario. Lake Ontario
Lake Ontario is one of the five Great Lakes of North America. Lyme, New York
Lyme is a town in Jefferson County, New York, United States. The population was 2,185 at the 2010 census. The settlements of Chaumont and Three Mile Bay are located within the town. Lyme is in the western part of Jefferson County and is northwest of Watertown. History A prehistoric occupation area from the Middle Woodland Period is known as the Point Peninsula complex. A common belief is that early explorers visited this town during the 16th century. Settlement began around 1802. Due to the large expanse of low-lying land, there was a great deal of sickness in the town. During the War of 1812, the inhabitants built a fort, but tore it down after visiting British officials assured them no harm would come to them if they removed fortifications.
