Gilgo Beach Serial Killings
The Gilgo Beach serial killings were part of a series of murders on Long Island, New York, spanning from 1993 to 2011. Many of the victims' remains were found over a period of months in late 2010 and 2011 during a police search of the area along Ocean Parkway, a road near the remote beach town of Gilgo in southern Suffolk County, New York. In December 2010, the remains of four victims designated as "The Gilgo Four" were found within a quarter of a mile of each other near Gilgo Beach. Six more sets of remains were found in March and April 2011 in Suffolk and Nassau counties. Police believe the latter sets of remains predate the four bodies found in December 2010. The original search was prompted by the disappearance of Shannan Gilbert in early May 2010 in Oak Beach, a gated community on the south shore. Joel Rifkin
Joel David Rifkin (born January 20, 1959) is an American serial killer, who was sentenced to 203 years in prison for the murders of 17 women between 1989 and 1993. Early life Rifkin's birth parents were both young college students and his biological father was an Army veteran. On February 14, 1959, when he was three weeks old, Rifkin was adopted by an upper-middle-class couple living on Long Island. Rifkin performed poorly in school due to learning disabilities and was unpopular with classmates. He graduated from East Meadow High School in 1977, then attended classes at Nassau Community College, the State University of New York at Brockport, and the State University of New York at Farmingdale, but left before earning a degree. Robert Yale Shulman (March 28, 1954 – April 13, 2006) was an American serial killer who murdered at least five young women in Hicksville, New York from 1991 to 1995. Convicted and sentenced to death for one of the murders and to life imprisonment for the others, his death sentence was later commuted to life imprisonment and he died in prison in 2006. Richard Angelo (born August 29, 1962) is an American serial killer and former nurse who operated within Long Island and West Islip, New York. In 1989, he was convicted of murdering several of his patients and sentenced to 50-years-to-life in prison. Early life Angelo was born on August 29, 1962, to parents who were both working in education. His mother was an economics teacher, and his father was a high school guidance counselor for the Lindenhurst school district on Long Island. Richard Cottingham
Richard Francis Cottingham (born November 25, 1946) is an American serial killer who was convicted in New York State of committing six murders between 1972 and 1980 and convicted in New Jersey of committing twelve murders between 1967 and 1978. He was nicknamed by media as the Torso Killer and the Times Square Ripper, since some of the murders he was convicted of included acts of mutilation.
