Lonely Symphony
"Lonely Symphony (We Will be Free)" was the entry at the Eurovision Song Contest 1994 in Dublin, Ireland. The song was written by George De Angelis and Mark Dean and sung by Frances Ruffelle in English. At Eurovision Performing sixth on the night, following 's Sigga singing "Nætur" and preceding 's Tony Cetinski singing "Nek' ti bude ljubav sva", it received 63 points and placed 10th in a field of twenty-five. It was succeeded as the UK representative by Love City Groove with "Love City Groove". Critical reception Mark Frith from ''Smash Hits'' gave the song three out of five, writing, "Everyone makes jokes about the Eurovision Song Contest, but we all want to win really. Frances Ruffelle is a rather wonderful, gutsy singer who could sing the London phone directory and make it sound good. And guess what? She just has! Well almost. Frances Ruffelle
Frances Ruffelle (born 29 August 1965) is an English musical theatre actress and singer. She won a Tony Award in 1987, and represented the United Kingdom in the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest with the song " Lonely Symphony (We Will Be Free)", finishing 10th. The song became a UK Top 30 hit. In 1984, Ruffelle starred as Dinah in the original West End production of ''Starlight Express''. From 1985, she was the original Éponine in the first English-language productions of ''Les Misérables'' in the West End and on Broadway, winning the 1987 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. Other stage roles include Yonah in '' Children of Eden'' (1991), Roxie Hart in ''Chicago'' (2003–04, 2007), the title role in '' Piaf'' (2013), Bella in ''The A to Z of Mrs. P'' (2014), and Queenie in '' The Wild Party''. ''Smash Hits'' was a British music magazine aimed at young adults, originally published by EMAP. It ran from 1978 to 2006, and, after initially appearing monthly, was issued fortnightly during most of that time. The name survived as a brand for a spin-off digital television channel, now named Box Hits, and website. A digital radio station was also available but closed on 5 August 2013. Overview ''Smash Hits'' featured the lyrics of latest hits and interviews with big names in music. It was initially published monthly, then went fortnightly. The style of the magazine was initially serious, but from the mid-1980s became increasingly irreverent. The Official Charts (legal name: The Official UK Charts Company Limited) is a British inter-professional organization that compiles various "official" record charts in the United Kingdom, Ireland and France. In the United Kingdom, its charts include ones for singles, albums and films, with the data compiled from a mixture of downloads, purchases (of physical media) and streaming. The OCC produces its charts by gathering and combining sales data from retailers through market researchers Kantar, and claims to cover 99% of the singles market and 95% of the album market, and aims to collect data from any retailer who sells more than 100 chart items per week. "Love City Groove" is a song by British rap group Love City Groove that represented the at the Eurovision Song Contest 1995. The song The song was written by Stephen "Beanz" Rudden, Tatiana Mais, Paul Hardy, and Jay Williams. It was released as a single from Love City Groove's album ''Hard Times'' on 27 March 1995. It was subsequently released in several versions in the same year, with three remixed versions released in Germany in 1996. Another version was released in Japan in 2003 for DJ use only. Chart success "Love City Groove" reached number seven on the UK Singles Chart that May, selling over 200,000 copies.
