One is a French pronunciation of the name Lawrence Rence, a fur trapper in the area. Another is the French name for Meriwether Lewis, "Le Louis". Or it could be based on either a Chinook word or a Nez Perce word. In addition to the town, a national forest, creek, mountain peak, mountain pass, hot springs, and historic trail are all named Lolo. Lower Manhattan Expansion
The expansion of the land area of Lower Manhattan in New York City by land reclamation has, over time, greatly altered Manhattan Island's shorelines on the North River (Hudson River), Hudson and East River, East rivers as well as those of the Upper New York Bay. The extension of the island began with European colonialization and continued in the 20th century. Incremental encroachment, landfill, as well as major infrastructure have added acreage to the island. Since the passage of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 all projects which extend into Waterway, navigable waterways follow federal regulation and are overseen by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. The original shoreline on the East Side (Manhattan), East Side generally ran along contemporary Pearl Street (Manhattan), Pearl and Cherry Street (Manhattan), Cherry streets and on the West Side (Manhattan), West Side was roughly today's Greenwich Street. Encroachment began in the 17th-century Dutch settlement of New Amst ...

Lift-on/lift-off
Lift-on/lift-off (LoLo, sometimes LOLO, LO/LO or Lo/Lo) ships are cargo ships with on-board crane (machine), cranes to load and unload cargo. Ships with cranes or other cargo handling equipment on-board are also termed ''geared'' vessels. As container ships usually have no on-board cranes or other mechanism to load or unload their cargo, they are therefore dependent on dockside container cranes to load and unload. However lift-on/lift-off vessels can load and unload their own cargo unassisted. Lift-on/lift-off vessels can operate out of docks with no dockside cargo handling equipment. "In May 2010 the Office of Naval Research (ONR) conducted a ... at-sea demonstration of their Large Vessel Interface Lift-on/Lift-off (LVI Lo/Lo) crane system in sea state 3 conditions. The LVI Lo/Lo demonstrator is an advanced motion-compensated, at-sea cargo transfer system. The embedded technologies combine to provide tagline free six degrees-of-freedom control of the payload."
