Lola Solar
Lola Solar (1904–1989) was an Austrian teacher and politician. She was a member of the Austrian People's Party which she represented in the Austrian Parliament. She was the first president of the European Union of Women and served in the post between 1955 and 1959. Early life and education Solar was born in Brunn am Gebirge, Lower Austria, on 13 May 1904. Her father, Josef Solar, was a lawyer. She graduated from the Teacher Training College in 1926. Career Following her graduation Solar worked as a teacher and school administrator. She was a member of the Austrian People's Party and acted as its district leader from 1945. She became a member of the parliament on 11 August 1949. Her term as a deputy ended on 31 March 1970. She was elected as president of the European Union of Women in 1955 which was established in Salzburg in 1953. Solar's tenure ended in 1959 when Elsa Conci was elected to the post. Brunn Am Gebirge
Brunn am Gebirge ( Central Bavarian: ''Brunn aum Gebiage'') is a town in the district of Mödling in the Austrian state of Lower Austria. History Excavations from the Neolithic period show that the area was already inhabited 6000 BC and Brunn making it the earliest known farming settlement in Austria. Also Awarengräber that were found in Mödling, suggest that inhabited the area at that time already. Because of excavations, it is believed that the Roman settlement here was for veterans. In modern times, it was the birthplace (1890) of the composer Hans Gál. Lower Austria
Lower Austria (german: Niederösterreich; Austro-Bavarian: ''Niedaöstareich'', ''Niedaestareich'') is one of the nine states of Austria, located in the northeastern corner of the country. Since 1986, the capital of Lower Austria has been Sankt Pölten, replacing Vienna which became a separate state in 1921. Mödling
Mödling () is the capital of the Austrian district of the same name located approximately 14 km south of Vienna. Mödling lies in Lower Austria's industrial zone (Industrieviertel). The Mödlingbach, a brook which rises in the Vienna Woods, flows through the town. Near Achau it joins with the Schwechat. Woodland occupies a large part of the municipality, part of the Föhrenberge ('Pine Mountains'). Located immediately south of Vienna, and within the boundaries of the district of Mödling, is one of the largest shopping centres in Europe: Shopping City Süd (SCS). Austrian People's Party
The Austrian People's Party (german: Österreichische Volkspartei , ÖVP ) is a Christian-democratic and liberal-conservative political party in Austria. The Austrian Parliament (german: Österreichisches Parlament) is the bicameral federal legislature of the Austrian Republic. It consists of two chambers – the National Council and the Federal Council.
