Lok Ma Chau
Lok Ma Chau or Lokmachau is an area in New Territories, Hong Kong. It is the site of a major pedestrian (linked directly to the Hong Kong MTR) and road border Lok Ma Chau Control Point, crossing point between Hong Kong and mainland China. Administratively, most of the Lok Ma Chau area is located within the Yuen Long District of Hong Kong. Geography Lok Ma Chau lies just south of the Sham Chun River (or Shenzhen River in Mandarin), which forms the border between Hong Kong and mainland China. Lok Ma Chau lies opposite Huanggang Port, Huanggang in Shenzhen, China. Lok Ma Chau lies within Hong Kong's Frontier Closed Area, a buffer zone established by the Hong Kong government to prevent illegal immigration from mainland China, and access to the area is restricted to those holding Frontier Closed Area#Closed Area Permit, Closed Area Permits. Lok Ma Chau Station
Lok Ma Chau is the northwestern terminus in Lok Ma Chau on the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line, a branch line of the of Hong Kong's MTR network, which was built to alleviate the immigration checkpoint between Hong Kong and mainland China's Shenzhen at Lo Wu station. MTR Corporation promotes use of Lok Ma Chau as a direct connection with and alongside of the Shenzhen Metro, the former which is also operated by the MTR Corporation. On 4 February 2020, MTR temporarily closed this station and suspended train service to and from this station following the Government's measures to contain the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Frontier Closed Area
The Frontier Closed Area ( zh, t=邊境禁區) is a regulated border zone in Hong Kong that extends inwards from the border with mainland China. It was established by the Frontier Closed Area Order, 1951, and 1984. Established to prevent illegal migrants and other illegal activities from mainland China and elsewhere by land and sea, the closed area is fenced along its perimeter to serve as a buffer between the closed border and the rest of the territory patrolled and controlled by Hong Kong Police Force and its Marine Region and the Immigration Department at land and sea. Developments are tightly controlled within the area, leading to less construction and causing most of the area to become a natural habitat for animals and plants. Antiquities Advisory Board
The Antiquities Advisory Board (AAB) is a statutory body of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region with the responsibility of advising the Secretary for Development, Antiquities Authority on any matters relating to antiquities and monuments. The AAB was established in 1976 along with the Antiquities and Monuments Office (AMO) when the Antiquities and Monuments Ordinance (Cap. 53) was enacted, and comprises members appointed by the Chief Executive of Hong Kong, Chief Executive. Lok Ma Chau Loop
The Lok Ma Chau Loop is a small piece of riverside land transferred to Hong Kong by Mainland China on 3 January 2017. It is the proposed development site for the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park. History Until the late 1990s, the Lok Ma Chau Loop was a part of Mainland China. When some engineering work was done to straighten the winding Sham Chun River, the natural border moved north and effectively left the landmass of the loop only accessible from Hong Kong. Mai Po Marshes (; Hong Kong Hakka: ''Mi3bu4 Sip5ti4'') is a nature reserve located in San Tin near Yuen Long in Hong Kong. it is within Yuen Long District. It is part of Deep Bay, an internationally significant wetland that is actually a shallow estuary, at the mouths of Sham Chun River, Shan Pui River (Yuen Long Creek) and Tin Shui Wai Nullah. Inner Deep Bay is listed as a Ramsar site under Ramsar Convention in 1995, and supports globally important numbers of wetland birds, which chiefly arrive in winter and during spring and autumn migrations.
