Olivet, Loiret
Olivet () is a commune in the Loiret department in north-central France. Geography Olivet is located in the northern bend of the Loire, which crosses from east to west. Olivet belongs to the Loire Valley sector between Sully-sur-Loire and Chalonnes-sur-Loire, which was in 2000 inscribed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Olivet is 120 km south-south-west of Paris. Olivet is bordered to the north by Orléans and to the south by the Sologne. Olivet is crossed by the Loiret, a 13 km long river which is both a tributary and a resurgence of the Loire. History The first traces of inhabitants belong to the Merovingian era. The water mills along the river were built by monks during the tenth century. The Loire (, also ; ; oc, Léger, ; la, Liger) is the longest river in France and the 171st longest in the world. With a length of , it drains , more than a fifth of France's land, while its average discharge is only half that of the Rhône. It rises in the southeastern quarter of the French Massif Central in the Cévennes range (in the department of Ardèche) at near Mont Gerbier de Jonc; it flows north through Nevers to Orléans, then west through Tours and Nantes until it reaches the Bay of Biscay (Atlantic Ocean) at Saint-Nazaire. Parc Floral De La Source
The Parc Floral de la Source is a French garden situated to the south of the River Loire, in the La Source neighbourhood of the town of Orléans, in the '' département'' of Loiret. With more than visitors in 2007, it is the most visited site in Loiret. The source of the Loiret river is at the centre of the park.
