Loga Ramin Torkian
Loga Ramin Torkian ()،(Born: September 23, 1964) is a musician and the co-founder of the groups Axiom of Choice and Niyaz. Both groups incorporate Persian and Middle Eastern themes into their music. Torkian composes music and plays several instruments, including the Iranian tar, the Turkish saz, and the GuitarViol, an electric guitar-like instrument that uses a bow and is adapted from a 14th-century instrument. Several of the lyrics in his songs draw on or include traditional Middle-Eastern prayers, songs or chants. His music has also appeared in several films, such as ''The Chosen One'' (1995), ''America So Beautiful'' (2001), ''Plastic Flowers Never Die'' (2008), and ''Crossing Over'' (2009). Personal life He is married to singer Azam Ali and they have one son. He previously was married to Yatrikadevi Shah-Rais and was co-owner of the retail store Koan Collection in Los Angeles (which has since closed). ''Sumud'' ( صمود), which was released on 22 May 2012, is the third album by Niyaz. It was originally reported that like their previous album '' Nine Heavens'' it would be released as a double album with one disc each for acoustic versions and electronic versions of songs, though it was released as a normal record with ten songs. The album features the guest appearance of A.R. Rahman on the song ''Mazaar'', a traditional Afghan folk song. The album's lyrics are mostly in Persian (Parishaan, Shah Sanam, Mazaar, Rah-e-Vafa, Masooz and Mahtaab) with two songs in Turkish (Dertli and Arzusun) and features the band's first lyrics in Arabic (Rayat Al Sumud) and Kurdish (Sosin). Azam Ali () is an Iranian musician. As of 2013, she has released ten albums with the bands VAS, Roseland, and Niyaz, as well as five solo records. Biography Born in Tehran on 3 October 1970, Ali spent most of her childhood in Panchgani, India. She and her mother moved to Los Angeles, California, in 1985. Ali studied the santoor under Persian master Manoochehr Sadeghi, which led her to discover her voice. Projects and collaborations In 1996, Ali formed the "alternative world" group Vas with percussionist Greg Ellis after they met a year prior at a concert at UCLA. The project was active until 2004.
