Loes River
The Loes River ( pt, Ribeira de Lois or , tet, Mota Lois) is a river in East Timor and one of the few perennial rivers in its north. It combines with its tributaries to make up the country's largest river system, and its catchment or drainage basin extends into the province of East Nusa Tenggara in Indonesia. The river and tributaries drain from the central mountains of Timor in a generally northeasterly direction into Ombai Strait. However, the river itself flows in a northwesterly direction, along the border between Bobonaro and Liquiçá municipalities in East Timor. Course The headwaters of the river are mainly in the portion of Timor's central mountains ranging between, on the one hand, Belu Regency, Indonesia, and Cova Lima municipality, East Timor, both southwest of the river's mouth, and, on the other hand, Liquiçá municipality, East Timor, to the mouth's east. Harry Dixon Loes (October 20, 1892 – February 9, 1965) was an American composer and teacher, best known for his arrangement of the gospel song "This Little Light of Mine". Loes was a prolific composer and hymn writer, hymnal editor, and music professor, as well as musical director in several churches and an evangelist for more than a dozen years. Life Harry Loes was born in Kalamazoo as the son of Fred Loes and Louise Novak Loes. He was the musical director in several churches. Subsequently Loes became involved in evangelistic work for more than a dozen years. Afterwards he became a music teacher at the Moody Bible Institute in 1939, where he worked until his death. He adopted the middle name of "Dixon" as an homage to the former pastor of the Moody Church, Dr. A. C. Dixon. In 1924 Loes married Garnet Leonard. Loes Geurts (; born 12 January 1986) is a Dutch footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Damallsvenskan club BK Häcken. Since making her international debut in 2005, Geurts has collected over 100 caps for the Netherlands national team. She kept goal for the Netherlands at the 2009 and 2013 editions of the UEFA Women's Championship. Club career Geurts' career started at the youth team of club RES in Bolsward. She then played for SC Heerenveen for one season, before returning to RES. In 2004 she played American college soccer for Western Illinois Leathernecks, returning to Europe in March 2006 for the second half of the 2005–06, joining Bundesliga team FFC Heike Rheine. Loes Gunnewijk (born 27 November 1980 in Groenlo) is a Dutch former professional racing cyclist, who rode professionally between 2004 and 2015. Gunnewijk was a member of the Dutch national team together with Ellen van Dijk, Marianne Vos and Annemiek van Vleuten in the road race at the 2012 Summer Olympics where Vos won the gold medal. Gunnewijk announced her retirement from the sport in May 2015, subsequently completing the Union Cycliste Internationale's Sports Directors Diploma course in November 2015. Loes was a hundred of Suffolk, with an area of . Loes Hundred was long and thin in shape, around long and between 2 and wide. It followed the course of the River Deben from Cretingham to Ufford where it crossed Wilford Hundred to Woodbridge where it widened considerably. The town and port of Woodbridge fell within the hundred but was detached from the main part by about three miles (5 km). Loes was bounded on the east by Plomesgate Hundred, on the north by Hoxne Hundred, and on the west and south west by Thredling, Carlford and Wilford Hundreds. The area is a picturesque district of hill and valley watered by the Deben, the River Ore and their tributary streams, and the loamy soil is well suited to barley, wheat and beans. Listed as ''Losa'' in the Domesday Book, the name "Loes" probably indicates that it was originally owned by a man named ''Hlossa''.
