Lode Anthonis
Lode Anthonis (28 November 1922 – 12 January 1992) was a Belgian racing cyclist who competed professionally from 1948 to 1962. He won the Belgian national road race title in 1951. He is buried in Tremelo. Tremelo
Tremelo () is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant, in Flanders. The municipality comprises the towns of Baal and Tremelo proper. On January 1, 2006, Tremelo had a total population of 13,725. The total area is 21.57 km² (5330 acres) which gives a population density of 636 inhabitants per km² (1647 per sq. mi.). Located in the ''arrondissement'' or administrative district of Leuven, the official language is Dutch. Tremelo is most famous for having been the hometown of Father Damien, SS.CC. whom Pope Benedict XVI canonized on October 11, 2009, as Saint Damien of Molokai. The 39th running of the Tour of Flanders cycling classic was held on Sunday, 27 March 1955. French rider Louison Bobet won the race in a three-man sprint with Hugo Koblet and Rik Van Steenbergen.Vanwalleghem, Rik (1991), De Ronde van Vlaanderen, Pinguin, Belgium, , p 112 47 of 203 riders finished. Race Report Rik Van Steenbergen was in an early breakaway with 12 riders and was first on the Kluisberg and Kruisberg. In Geraardsbergen, just after the peloton caught the group, Van Steenbergen, Louison Bobet, Bernard Gauthier and Hugo Koblet broke away on the steep Kloosterstraat. Gauthier did most of the work in the four-man group for his team leader Bobet. Van Steenbergen, favourite to win in the sprint, paid his earlier efforts and was beaten by Bobet and Koblet. History Paris–Brussels was first run on 12 August 1893 as an amateur event over a distance of 397 km, Belgian Andre Henry took the inaugural victory from compatriot Charles Delbecque with France's Fernand Augenault coming in third. Dwars door Vlaanderen ''( en, Across Flanders)'' is a semi-classic road bicycle race in Belgium, held annually since 1945. The race starts in Roeselare and finishes in Waregem, both in West Flanders. Since 2017 the event is included in the UCI World Tour. Held in late March, the event is part of the '' Flemish Cycling Week'', which also includes E3 Harelbeke, Gent–Wevelgem and the Tour of Flanders.
