Lockyer is a rural locality in the Lockyer Valley Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Lockyer had a population of 89 people. Geography Lockyer railway station is on the Main Line railway (). Murphys Creek Road runs through from north to south. History Jagara (also known as Jagera, Yagara, Yugarabul, Yuggera and Yuggerabul) is one of the Aboriginal languages of South-East Queensland. There is some uncertainty over the status of Jagara as a language, dialect or perhaps a group or clan within the local government boundaries of Ipswich City Council, Lockyer Regional Council and the Somerset Regional Council. The locality takes its name from Lockyer Creek, believed to have been named by explorer Allan Cunningham in July 1829. It was named after Major Edmund Lockyer who explored the Brisbane River in 1825. Withcott is a rural town and locality in the Lockyer Valley Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Withcott had a population of 2,067 people. Geography Withcott is located in the Lockyer Valley at the foot of the Toowoomba range on the Toowoomba Connection Road, formerly part of the Warrego Highway, west of the state capital, Brisbane and east of the regional centre of Toowoomba. History Withcott Methodist Church was built in 1900 from timber at a cost of £90. It could seat 100 people. It has closed and been demolished. Withcott State School opened in September 1912 on the Toowoomba Commonage with headmaster Mr M. F. Ryan. When its enrolment fell to 8 students, it was closed on 30 April 1971 and the land sold. Brisbane River

Edmund Lockyer
Edmund Lockyer, (21 January 1784 – 10 June 1860) was a British soldier and explorer of Australia. Born in Plymouth, Devon, Lockyer was the son of Thomas Lockyer, a sailmaker, and his wife Ann. Lockyer began his army career as an ensign in the 19th Regiment in June 1803, was promoted lieutenant in early 1805 and made captain in August 1805. Lockyer was promoted to major in August 1819 and in August 1824 transferred to the 57th Regiment. Lockyer arrived at Sydney, capital of the British Colony of New South Wales, aboard the ''Royal Charlotte'' in April 1825 with men from the 57th; also with his wife and ten children. In August 1825, Lockyer was instructed by Governor Sir Thomas Brisbane to lead an expedition to explore the upper reaches of the Brisbane River. Allan Cunningham (13 July 1791 – 27 June 1839) was an English botany, botanist and List of explorers, explorer, primarily known for his expeditions into uncolonised areas of eastern Australia to collect plants and report on the suitability of the land for grazing purposes. The Lockyer Creek is a creek in South East Queensland, Australia. A tributary of the Brisbane River, the creek is a major drainage system in the Lockyer Valley.
