Local Government Act 2020
The Local Government Act 2020 was a significant statute in Victoria, Australia, notable for its impact on the electoral systems of local councils in Victoria. The Act, which the Victorian Government described as the "most ambitious and comprehensive reform of local government in Victoria for 30 years," will see a large number of multi-member wards replaced with single-member wards. Reviews were undertaken for the number of councillors, number of councillors per ward and the exact boundaries of those wards for 39 of Victoria's 79 councils. The Act was introduced on 17 June 2019 by the then- Minister for Local Government, Adem Somyurek. It passed parliament on 17 March 2020, and received Royal Assent days later on 24 March. The Act has been criticised for its banning of proportional representation for most councils, and the consequential likely negative impact on the ability for women and minority groups to be elected. Undivided Council
In Australian local government, an undivided council (also referred to as unsubdivided) is a council that does not have any wards, meaning all councillors are elected in a single area representing the entire council. Shire Of Mansfield
The Mansfield Shire is a local government area in the Hume region of Victoria, Australia, located in the north-east part of the state. It covers an area of and in June 2018, had a population of 8,979. It includes the towns of Mansfield, Maindample, Mount Buller, Bonnie Doon, Jamieson, Kevington, Merrijig, Tolmie and Woods Point. City Of Whitehorse
The City of Whitehorse is a local government area in Victoria, Australia in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. It has an area of and in June 2018, Whitehorse had a population of 176,196. Whitehorse was formed in December 1994 by the amalgamation of the former cities of Box Hill and Nunawading. The name Whitehorse came from the White Horse Inn, a tavern originally located in the area in the late 19th century. The City of Maroondah is a local government area in Victoria, Australia in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Maroondah had a population of 117,498 in June 2018. The City of Maroondah was created through the amalgamation the former Cities of Ringwood and Croydon in December 1994.
