President's Choice (Canadian French, French: le Choix du Président) or PC is a line of grocery products and services offered by the Canada-based Loblaw Companies, Loblaw Companies Ltd. History President's Blend The first President's Choice (PC) products began appearing on Loblaw store shelves in 1984, but the concept was created the year before as the company marketed a new ground coffee. Dave Nichol, president of Loblaw Supermarkets, was looking for products to add to the company's lineup of No Name (brand), No Name generic items and had even begun offering gourmet items in the familiar unbranded yellow packaging. Loblaws Inc. is a Canadian supermarket chain with stores located in the province of Ontario, and in Alberta and British Columbia under the Loblaws CityMarket banner. No Name (styled as no name, ) is a line of generic brand grocery and household products sold by Loblaw Companies Limited, Canada's largest food retailer. Dominion Stores, commonly referred to as simply Dominion, is the primary brand name of the major-market supermarkets of Loblaw Companies Limited in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, currently all located on the Newfoundland (island), island of Newfoundland. The Newfoundland operations were part of the Dominion (supermarket), national Dominion supermarket chain from 1963 to 1987 when that company was split up, with Loblaw acquiring the stores in 1995 but retaining a provincial brand licensing, licence to the Dominion brand. Theodore Loblaw
Theodore Pringle Loblaw (July 1, 1872 – April 2, 1933) was a Canadian grocer. Loblaw founded the Loblaws chain of grocery stores. Biography Loblaw was born in Elmgrove, northeast of Alliston, the son of William John Loblaw and Isabella Stevenson Johnson. After his parents' deaths during his adolescence, Loblaw was raised by his maternal grandparents, William and Elizabeth Johnson, at their farm just outside Alliston. In the 1890s he headed to Toronto to begin his career in retail grocery. He later settled in Mimico and eventually purchased his grandparents' farm. He also sponsored the construction of Stevenson Memorial Hospital in Alliston to honour his grandparents. Loblaw married Isabella Adam in 1897. No Frills (currently styled ''NOFRILLS'' and formerly styled ''nofrills'') is a Canadian chain of discount supermarkets, owned by Loblaw Companies Limited, a subsidiary of George Weston Limited. There are over 300 franchise stores located in nine Canadian provinces. History The first No Frills store was a converted Loblaws outlet slated for closure. Provigo is a grocery retailer based in Quebec, Canada, consisting of over 300 stores and franchises throughout the province. It operates a retailing chain of stores and distribution warehouses. It is owned by Loblaw Companies Limited. The chain's advertising slogan is "''Si vite, si bon!''" ("So quick, so good!") Real Atlantic Superstore is a Canadian supermarket chain. The chain operates in the Maritimes, the Maritime Provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. It is owned by George Weston Limited through Loblaw Companies Limited, and operates under the Atlantic Wholesalers division of Loblaws. Extra Foods (also branded as ''extrafoods'') was a Canadian supermarket chain, part of Loblaw Companies Limited. Founded in 1982, the chain had 106 locations at its peak in 2006 and were located through most of Western Canada. Most Extra Foods stores were smaller than its sister chain, Real Canadian Superstore, and most locations were in smaller, rural communities. Extra Foods is similar to Ontario's Your Independent Grocer/Zehrs banners, as well as Quebec's Provigo banner.
