Lloyd (singer)
Lloyd Polite Jr. (born January 3, 1986) is an American Contemporary R&B, R&B singer. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and raised in Decatur, Georgia, he began his musical career as a member of the preteen-boy band N-Toon, which was formed by Joyce Irby in 1996. The group disbanded in 2001, and Polite signed with record executive Irv Gotti's Murder Inc. Records, an imprint of Def Jam Recordings in 2003 to pursue a solo career. His 2004 debut single, "Southside (Lloyd song), Southside" (featuring Ashanti (singer), Ashanti) peaked within the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100, ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and led his first album Southside (Lloyd album), ''Southside'' (2004), which entered the Billboard 200, ''Billboard'' 200 at number 11. Jeffrey Bruce Atkins (born February 29, 1976), better known by his stage name Ja Rule (), is an American rapper, singer, and actor. Born and raised in New York City, Ja Rule became known for blending gangsta rap with pop rap, pop and contemporary R&B, R&B sensibilities. ''Southside'' is the debut studio album by American R&B singer Lloyd. It was released by The Inc. Records and Def Jam Recordings on July 20, 2004 in the United States. Lloyd teamed with several of record producers to work on the album, including frequent The Inc. producers such as Chink Santana, Demi Doc, Jasper Camero, and label head Irv Gotti as well as Teddy Bishop, Corron Cole, Artie Green, Jimi Kendrix, and Rodney "Darkchid" Jerkins, among others. The album garnered largely mixed reviews from music critics, some of whom felt that it lacked substance. The ''Billboard'' Hot 100, also known as simply the Hot 100, is the music industry standard record chart in the United States for songs, published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine. Chart rankings are based on sales (physical and digital), online streaming, and radio airplay in the U.S. A new chart is compiled and released online to the public by ''Billboard''s website on Tuesdays but post-dated to the following Saturday, when the printed magazine first reaches newsstands. The weekly tracking period for sales is currently Friday–Thursday, after being changed in July 2015. It was initially Monday–Sunday when Nielsen started tracking sales in 1991. In the music industry, the Top 40 is a list of the 40 currently most popular songs in a particular genre. It is the best-selling or most frequently broadcast popular music. Record charts have traditionally consisted of a total of 40 songs. "Top 40" or " contemporary hit radio" is also a radio format. Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas (born October 13, 1980) is an American singer, songwriter and actress. She was discovered as a teenager by record producer Irv Gotti, and signed with his label Murder Inc. Records, an imprint of Def Jam Recordings in 2002. "Southside" was the lead single by American R&B singer Lloyd, featuring Ashanti, from his debut studio album of the same name (2004), released May 8, 2004 by The Inc. and Def Jam Records. The song was written by T. Hale, W. Morris, Tab and by producer Jimi Kendrix. Joyce "Fenderella" Irby (born July 27, 1956, Orlando, FL - according to her 2022 memoir, "Id Still Say Yes") is an American singer, songwriter, bass guitarist and producer. She was the co-lead vocalist of the all-female band Klymaxx. Irby has also worked with artists such as Lloyd, Troop, Sammie, The SOS Band and Shalamar. Career In her teenage years, she used to stand outside concert arenas in the South with her bass around her neck, playing on loading ramps. There she was first noticed by George Clinton. Jamal Fincher Jones (born October 15, 1977 or 1978), known professionally as Polow da Don, is an American record producer from Atlanta, Georgia.
