Denbigh Town F
Denbigh (; cy, Dinbych; ) is a market town and a community in Denbighshire, Wales. Formerly, the county town, the Welsh name translates to "Little Fortress"; a reference to its historic castle. Denbigh lies near the Clwydian Hills. History Denbigh Castle, together with its town walls, was built in 1282 by order of King Edward I. The Burgess Gate, whose twin towers adorn the symbol on Denbigh's civic seal, was once the main entrance into the town. The first borough charter was granted to Denbigh in 1290, when the town was still contained within the old town walls. It was the centre of the Marcher Lordship of Denbigh. Llangollen () is a town and community, situated on the River Dee, in Denbighshire, Wales. Its riverside location forms the edge of the Berwyn range, and the Dee Valley section of the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with the easternmost point of the Dee Valley Way being within the town. It had a population of 3,658 at the 2011 census. History Llangollen takes its name from the Welsh ''llan'' meaning "a religious settlement" and Saint Collen, a 7th-century monk who founded a church beside the river. St Collen is said to have arrived in Llangollen by coracle. William Roberts (footballer, Born 1859)
William Roberts (born 1859) was a Welsh footballer who played as a forward in the 1870s and 1880s and made six appearances for Wales, scoring twice. Football career Roberts was born in Llangollen in north-east Wales and started his football career at his local club. His international debut came when he was selected in place of his Llangollen colleague, Jack Roberts, for the first international match between Wales and England on 18 January 1879. Roberts was one of only two of the Welsh team who were not associated with the Oswestry club, the other being John Price. The match was played at the Kennington Oval and was shortened to two halves of only 30 minutes each because of the heavy snowfall. Roberts, playing at outside-left, "scored" against England, but the goal was ruled out for an earlier infringement; England won the match 2–1. Harry Adams (footballer)
Harry Adams (1855 – 13 July 1910) was an England-born Welsh footballer who played as a goalkeeper for Druids during their FA Cup run in 1882–83 and made four international appearances for Wales. Football career Adams was born in Crick, Northamptonshire in England of Welsh parents, but returned to Llangollen in Wales where he worked as a plumber. He started his football career with local side, Berwyn Rangers, in 1879 and was first selected to represent Wales in a friendly match against Ireland at the Racecourse Ground, Wrexham on 25 February 1882. The Welsh won the match 7–1, with John Price scoring four goals. Adams retained his place for the next match, against England, when the Welsh were again victorious by a margin of five goals to three. His success with the Welsh team drew him to the attention of Druids (based in Ruabon), then one of the top teams in Wales, whom he joined in 1882. Ruthin ( ; cy, Rhuthun) is a market town and community in Denbighshire, Wales, in the south of the Vale of Clwyd. It is Denbighshire's county town. The town, castle and St Peter's Square lie on a hill, skirted by villages such as Pwllglas and Rhewl. The name comes from the Welsh ''rhudd'' (red) and ''din'' (fort), after the colour of sandstone bedrock, from which the castle was built in 1277–1284. The Old Mill, Ruthin, is nearby.
