Livio Franceschini
Livio Franceschini (14 April 1913 – 20 November 1975) was an Italian basketball player who competed in the 1936 Summer Olympics. He was born and died in Trieste. Franceschini was part of the Italian basketball team that finished seventh in the Basketball at the 1936 Summer Olympics, Olympic tournament. He played four matches. The 1937 FIBA European Championship, commonly called FIBA EuroBasket 1937, was the second FIBA EuroBasket regional basketball championship, held by FIBA. Eight national teams affiliated with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) took part in the competition. Defending champions Latvia hosted the tournament, held in Riga. The 1936 Summer Olympics (), officially the Games of the XI Olympiad () and officially branded as Berlin 1936, were an international multi-sport event held from 1 to 16 August 1936 in Berlin, then capital of Nazi Germany. Basketball at the 1936 Summer Olympics was the first appearance of the sport of Basketball at the Summer Olympics, basketball as an official Olympic medal event. The tournament was played between 7 and 14 August 1936 in Berlin, Nazi Germany, Germany. 23 nations entered the competition, making basketball the largest tournament of the team sports, but Hungary and Spain withdrew, meaning 21 competed. The International Olympic Committee and FIBA, International Basketball Federation, which is the governing body of international basketball, used the 1936 tournament to experiment with outdoor basketball. Lawn and dirt tennis courts were used for the competition, but this caused problems when the weather was adverse, especially during the final of the tournament.
