Livia Turco
Livia Turco (born 13 February 1955) is an Italian politician. She began her political career in the 1970s as a member of the Italian Communist Party, becoming a member of the Italian Parliament in 1987. She then joined its legal successors, the Democratic Party of the Left and then the Democrats of the Left. A member of the Democratic Party, she was elected to the Senate of the Republic in 2006. By 2008, she returned to the Chamber of Deputies, and did not seek re-election in 2013. Turco was Minister of Social Affairs in three centre-left coalition-led governments from 1996 to 2001 and Minister of Health from 2006 to 2008. Life and career Turco came from a working-class background in Morozzo, Cuneo, and studied in Cuneo and Turin, where she began her political career with the Italian Communist Party, becoming a deputy in 1987. Order Of Merit Of The Italian Republic
The Order of Merit of the Italian Republic () is the most senior Italian order of merit. It was established in 1951 by the second President of Italy, President of the Italian Republic, Luigi Einaudi. The highest-ranking honour of the Republic, it is awarded for "merit acquired by the nation" in the fields of science, literature, arts, economy, public service, and social, philanthropic and humanitarian activities and for long and conspicuous service in civilian and military careers. The post-nominal letters for the order are OMRI. The order effectively replaced national orders such as the Civil Order of Savoy (1831), the Order of the Crown of Italy (1868), the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus (1572) and the Supreme Order of the Most Holy Annunciation (1362). Second Prodi Government
The second Prodi government was the cabinet of the government of Italy from 17 May 2006 to 8 May 2008, a total of 722 days, or 1 year, 11 months and 21 days. The 59th cabinet of the Italian Republic, it was the only cabinet of the XV Legislature. It was composed of 24 ministers, 10 deputy-ministers and 66 under-secretaries, for a total of 102 members. This was the first government of the Republic in which the Communist Refoundation Party and the Italian Radicals participated directly, and the first government supported by the entire parliamentary left wing since the De Gasperi III Cabinet in 1947.
