The cities of Liverpool and Manchester are about apart in North West England. Since the Industrial Revolution, there has been a consistent rivalry between the two cities based on economic and industrial competition. The Bridgewater Canal connects Runcorn, Manchester and Leigh, Greater Manchester, Leigh, in North West England.
