Little Baggariddim
''Little Baggariddim'' is an EP by British reggae band UB40. It was only released in the US and Canada and peaked at number 40 on the ''Billboard'' 200 and number 26 on the ''RPM'' Top 100 Albums. Release and reception ''Little Baggariddim'' was released in July 1985 at the beginning of UB40's tour of the US and Canada. The EP comprises six tracks, four of which were released outside of North America in September 1985 on UB40's sixth studio album '' Baggariddim''. It also contains " One in Ten", a reworked, sped-up version of the song originally released in 1981 on UB40's second album '' Present Arms'', as well as a dub version of "I Got You Babe". Reviewing for ''Rolling Stone'', Rob Tannenbaum wrote that "the whole record coheres brilliantly" and that it "will surely stand as one of 1985's best EPs, and it makes one hungry for a ''Big Baggariddim''". UB40
UB40 are an English reggae band, formed in December 1978 in Birmingham, England. The band has had more than 50 singles in the UK Singles Chart and has also achieved considerable international success. They have been nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album four times and were nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Group in 1984. UB40 have sold more than 70 million records worldwide. The ethnic make-up of the band's original line-up was diverse, with musicians of English, Welsh, Irish, Jamaican, Scottish, and Yemeni parentage. Their hit singles include their debut track " Food for Thought" and two ''Billboard'' Hot 100 number-one hits, " Red Red Wine" and " Can't Help Falling in Love". Present Arms (album)
''Present Arms'' is the second album by UB40 and was released in 1981. It spent 38 weeks on the UK album charts, reaching number 2. An album of original songs, it spawned two top 20 hits in "One in Ten" (number 7) and "Don't Let It Pass You By/Don't Slow Down" (16). Like their first album ''Signing Off'', ''Present Arms'' contained many socially and politically charged lyrics, from the anti-military title track to "Sardonicus" which was linked to both President Ronald Reagan and ''risus sardonicus'', an ironic smile on tetanus victims' faces, The UK top-ten hit "One in Ten" was an attack on Thatcherism. The album also touches on a subject very dear to UB40's heart: 'Lamb's Bread' and 'Don't Walk On The Grass' are written as part of the band's longstanding campaign for the legalisation of cannabis. Pato Banton (born Patrick Murray; 28 January 1961) is a reggae singer and toaster from Birmingham, England. He received the nickname Pato Banton from his stepfather: its first name derives from the sound of a Jamaican owl calling "patoo, patoo", while its second comes from the disc jockey slang word "banton", meaning heavyweight lyricist or storyteller. Don't Break My Heart (UB40 Song)
"Don't Break My Heart" is a song by British reggae band UB40 from their sixth album ''Baggariddim''. A remixed version was released as a single in October 1985 and peaked at number three on the UK singles chart, UK Singles Chart, making it their highest charting original song. Songwriting dispute On its release, the songwriting credits were only given to UB40, apart from in the US where the single and album credited the lyrics as being written by Javid Khan and the music by UB40. Khan was a singer and the next-door neighbour of UB40 lead singer Ali Campbell. However, in 1992, Deborah Banks, a secretary in Birmingham, took legal action again UB40 and the music publishers, claiming she had written the majority of the lyrics for "Don't Break My Heart". Christine Ellen Hynde (born September 7, 1951) is an American-British musician. She is a founding member of the rock band the Pretenders and is the band's lead vocalist, guitarist, and primary songwriter; she and drummer Martin Chambers are the band's two remaining original members. Hynde is the only continuous member of the Pretenders, having appeared on every studio album released by the band.
