Literary Festivals
A literary festival, also known as a book festival or writers' festival, is a regular gathering of writers and readers, typically on an annual basis in a particular city. A literary festival usually features a variety of presentations and readings by authors, as well as other events, delivered over a period of several days, with the primary objectives of promoting the authors' books and fostering a love of literature and writing. Writers' conferences are sometimes designed to provide an intellectual and academic focus for groups of writers without the involvement of the general public. There are many literary festivals held around the world. Writer
A writer is a person who uses written words in different writing styles, genres and techniques to communicate ideas, to inspire feelings and emotions, or to entertain. Writers may develop different forms of writing such as novels, short stories, monographs, travelogues, plays, screenplays, teleplays, songs, and essays as well as reports, educational material, and news articles that may be of interest to the general public. Writers' works are nowadays published across a wide range of media. Skilled writers who are able to use language to express ideas well, often contribute significantly to the cultural content of a society. The term "writer" is also used elsewhere in the arts and music, such as songwriter or a screenwriter, but also a stand-alone "writer" typically refers to the creation of written language. Galle Literary Festival
Galle Literary Festival is an international literary festival held annually in the beautiful south coastal fort town of Galle, Sri Lanka. In recent years the profile of the festival has increased substantially, with attendance by many internationally acclaimed and well-known authors and speakers. In 2024 the title sponsor of the festival was Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau. History The festival was founded in 2007 by Anglo-Australian hotelier Geoffrey Dobbs with an ambition to promote the boutique tourism industry in Sri Lanka as well as to bench mark Sri Lankan authors alongside internationally recognised authors. Lit For Life
Lit for Life is an annual literary festival organised by the English daily ''The Hindu'' in Chennai, India. The festival was inaugurated in 2010, where it was part of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of ''The Hindu''s Literary Review. In 2011 the Lit for Life became an independent one-day event. It has over the years developed into a three-day festival of literature and thought, featuring notable authors and speakers from all over the world. In 2020, the festival, that always takes place in mid-January, will celebrate its 10th anniversary. Lahore Literary Festival
The Lahore Literary Festival (LLF) is an international literary festival held annually in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. The festival is considered to be one of South Asia's premier cultural events. The UNESCO Creative Cities Network added Lahore to its number in 2019, less than a year after the head of the UNESCO City of Literature Heidelberg highlighted Lahore’s suitability for the program at the Lahore Literary Festival. JLF Adelaide
OzAsia Festival, or simply OzAsia, is a major arts festival in Adelaide, South Australia. It is an Asia-focused festival presented by the Adelaide Festival Centre for two weeks in late October to early November each year. Founded in 2007, the festival features theatre, dance, music,film, and visual arts from across Asia as well as outdoor events and food stalls. Jaipur Literary Festival
The Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF), often hailed as the "''greatest literary show on Earth''," is a renowned annual cultural and literary festival held in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. Established in 2006 by writers Namita Gokhale and William Dalrymple, it has grown into one of the world’s largest and most prestigious literary gatherings, attracting authors, writers, scholars, artists, critics, thinkers, and readers from across the globe. The Diggi Palace Hotel in Jaipur used to serve as the main venue of the festival, with sessions held in the Hall of Audience and throughout the gardens of the Diggi Palace in the city centre. Islamabad Literature Festival
The Islamabad Literature Festival (ILF) is an international literary festival held annually in Islamabad, Pakistan. History ILF was established in 2013.
