Lite FM (New Zealand)
Lite FM was a New Zealand radio station broadcasting in Christchurch on 94.5FM. The station was first started in 1997 by Radio Otago in Dunedin on 90.2 FM, the programme was also networked to Invercargill on 98.0 FM. Programming on the station at this point was mostly voice tracked and on air the station was often called "The Lite FM Network." In 1998 Lite FM began broadcasting in Christchurch when Radio Otago rebranded Easy Listening i94 as Lite FM. Easy Listening i94 was first started in Christchurch in 1994 by C93FM Limited under a franchise agreement with Easy Listening, Radio Otago purchased C93FM Limited in 1997. It airs in 25 markets across New Zealand and each market shows a mix of local and network programmes. The station reached its highest ever audience of 671,000 listeners in 2021. The Breeze launched a television channel called The Breeze TV in March 2020, which was acquired in December 2020 by Discovery, Inc. as part of its purchase of MediaWorks' television operations. Breeze TV became an online-only channel in March 2022. It ceased broadcasting in December 2022. Radio Stations In Christchurch
This is a list of Radio Stations in Canterbury in New Zealand. During October 2010, several FM radio stations changed frequencies as spacing was being standardised to 0.8 MHz. Frequency changes continue as broadcast licences are renewed. Most frequencies are now spaced 0.8 MHz apart, with the first station at a frequency of 88.9 MHz. Infill stations are allocated to the 0.4 MHz frequency in the buffer between two other stations. The Canterbury earthquakes of 2010 and 2011 have allowed community stations to play a greater role in the Canterbury community. Compass FM 104.9 FM has existed as a not-for-profit community radio station in the North Canterbury area since June 2011. Several radio stations have also ceased operation as a result of the Canterbury earthquakes. Solid Gold began broadcasting on 13 October 1997 and was rebranded as The Sound on 1 January 2012.
