Litespeed is a U.S. bicycle manufacturer founded in 1986 in Ooltewah, Tennessee by David Lynskey. Litespeed makes titanium and carbon fiber frame road racing bicycles and mountain bikes. Titanium bicycle frames are famed for their ride quality. Litespeed, along with triathlon specific bicycle manufacturer Quintana Roo, is a subsidiary of the American Bicycle Group. History David Lynskey's titanium frame building days started in a custom machine shop known as Southeast Machine started by his father William. The shop specialized in exotic metals (mainly titanium). His interest in bicycles began when he took up cycling while recovering from a running injury. He used leftover titanium from a job at Olin Chemical to build the first frame in the early 80's. Quintana Roo (QR) was the first company to create a triathlon-specific wetsuit over 25 years ago, and then a tri-specific bicycle two years later. The company was founded in 1987 by Dan Empfield of Ironman fame and is currently owned by the American Bicycle Group. Wetsuits The company's flagship product in 1987 was the first wetsuit made specifically for triathlon, designed by Empfield. This new wetsuit was more flexible and more buoyant, giving it swim-specific characteristics that were not found in the diving or surfing wetsuits used by triathletes at that time. In 1990, Quintana Roo discovered and pioneered the use of Yamamoto Rubber #39 in its high-end wetsuits. The World Triathlon Cup is an annual series of triathlon races staged around the world. The series is organised by the World Triathlon, the world governing body of the sport. Inaugurated in 1991, the World Cup began as an attempt to create a regular season under its management in tandem with the ITU Triathlon World Championship race. However, this meant that there was a World Cup champion as well as a world champion. Following the 2008 series the ITU reorganized its top level competitions and created the World Triathlon Series, a series of races that was to be the successor of the World Championship. Vanessa de Sousa Fernandes (; born 14 September 1985) is a Portuguese athlete who is a former triathlon European and world champion, and an Olympic medalist. In duathlon, she was also European and world champion. Tim DeBoom
Tim DeBoom (born November 4, 1970 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa), is a retired professional triathlete from Boulder, Colorado from 1995 to 2012. During that tenure, DeBoom participated in hundreds of triathlons around the world, winning both short course and long course triathlons. After a 10th place finish in the Hawaii Ironman in 1995, DeBoom focused on long distance racing, eventually winning the Ironman Triathlon World Championship in Hawaii twice (2001 & 2002). Toward the end of his triathlon career, DeBoom won the infamous Norseman triathlon, becoming the first non-European man to achieve the feat. He completed the three part race in 11 hours, 18 minutes and 52 seconds. Tim was inducted into the Hawaii Ironman Hall of Fame in 2019. DeBoom graduated from the University of Iowa with Bachelor of Science degrees in exercise physiology and anatomy.
