Lite-On Technology Center
The Lite-On Technology Center () is a 23-storey, skyscraper office building completed in 2002 and located in Neihu District, Taipei, Taiwan. The building consists of four basement levels, with a total floor area of . One of the most prominent landmarks in the Neihu Science Park along the bank of the Keelung River, the building serves as the corporate headquarters of the Taiwanese electronics manufacturer company Lite-On. Designed by Taiwanese architect Kris Yao symbolizing a pair of clasped hands pointing to the sky, the Lite-On Technology Center won the 2006 Professional Awards-General Design Award of Honor presented by the American Society of Landscape Architects. Lite-On (also known as LiteOn and LiteON) is a Taiwanese company that primarily manufactures consumer electronics, including LEDs, semiconductors, computer chassis, monitors, motherboards, optical disc drives, and other electronic components. The Lite-On group also consists of some non-electronic companies like a finance arm and a cultural company. History Lite-On was started in 1975 by several Taiwanese Texas Instruments ex-employees. Kris Yao (; born December 1951) is a Taiwanese architect, and the founder and head architect at KRIS YAO , ARTECH in Taipei and Shanghai. Biography Yao was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan. Keelung River
The Keelung River ( zh, c=基隆河, p=Jīlóng Hé, w=Chi1-lung2 Ho2, poj=Ke-lâng-hô) is a river in northern Taiwan. The Keelung River originates in the mountains west-northwest of the town of Jingtong in Pingxi District, New Taipei City, flows down to a rift valley and then flows ENE to Sandiaoling. Then it flows northward to a point between Jiufen and Keelung City, and then heads back in a general WSW direction to Taipei, where it joins the Tamsui River and flows out to sea. The land around the Keelung river was rich in gold and coal, and many areas were mined. Geology Park along the river is Dajia Riverside Park. Pollution The Keelung River is heavily polluted by both raw sewage and industrial pollution from illegal industry. Neihu District
Neihu District is a District (Taiwan), district of Taipei, Taipei City, Taiwan. Neihu means "inner lake." The older name originates from the Ketagalan word ''Tayour'' (transliterated by the Dutch as ''Cattajo''), meaning woman's head ornament.
