Mayor
In many countries, a mayor is the highest-ranking official in a Municipal corporation, municipal government such as that of a city or a town. Worldwide, there is a wide variance in local laws and customs regarding the powers and responsibilities of a mayor as well as the means by which a mayor is elected or otherwise mandated. Depending on the system chosen, a mayor may be the chief executive officer of the municipal government, may simply chair a multi-member governing body with little or no independent power, or may play a solely ceremonial role. A mayor's duties and responsibilities may be to appoint and oversee municipal managers and employees, provide basic governmental services to constituents, and execute the laws and ordinances passed by a municipal governing body (or mandated by a state, territorial or national governing body). The Right Honourable the Lord Mayor of Sydney is the head of the Council of the City of Sydney, which is the local government area covering the central business district of Sydney in the State of New South Wales, Australia. The Lord Mayor has been directly elected since 1995, replacing the previous system of being internally elected annually by the Councillors, and serves a four-year term. The most recent election was held on 14 September 2024, at which the incumbent Lord Mayor, Clover Moore, was re-elected to a sixth term. The Lord Mayor is assisted in their work by a Deputy Lord Mayor, who is elected on an annual basis by the elected councillors. List Of Mayors Of Strathfield
This is a list of mayors of the Council of the Municipality of Strathfield, a local government area in the Inner West region of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. First incorporated on 2 June 1885 as the "Municipal District of Strathfield" the first council was convened and elected on 19 August 1885, which later changed to the "Municipality of Strathfield" following the passing of the 1906 Local Government Act. The council became known as "Strathfield Council" on 1 July 1993 following the enactment of a new Local Government Act, which also stipulated a change of title from "Alderman" to "Councillor". Since 1971, the Mayor is elected bi-annually by the Councillors each September. The current mayor is Cr John-Paul Baladi (Liberal Party), elected on the 8 October 2024. This is a list of mayors of the City of Stonnington local government area in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, which was formed in 1994 by the amalgamation of the City of Malvern and the City of Prahran. Commissioners (1994-1996) Mayors (1996 to present) From 1996 until 2004, the annual election of the mayor for the following 12 months occurred in March. It existed from 1855 until 1994 when it merged with the City of Collingwood and City of Fitzroy to form the new City of Yarra. This is a list of the Mayors of Manly Council, a former local government area of New South Wales, Australia. The official title of Mayors while holding office was: His/Her Worship The Mayor of Manly. First incorporated on 6 January 1877 as the Municipality of Manly, the council met for the first time on 15 February 1877, when the first mayor was elected. The council became known as Manly Council on 1 July 1993 following the enactment of the ''Local Government Act, 1993'' which also stipulated that the term 'Town Clerk' be replaced with 'General Manager' and 'Alderman' be replaced by 'Councillor'.
