Lister Petter
Lister Petter is a British company with assembly lines in India, China and elsewhere, that manufactures internal combustion engines for industry. History The company was formed in 1986, after owner Hawker Siddeley merged Dursley, Gloucestershire based R A Lister and Company (acquired in 1965), with Yeovil, Somerset based Petters Limited (acquired in 1957). In 1992, Hawker Siddeley Group Plc was acquired by BTR plc for £1.5bn. In 1999 BTR merged with Siebe plc, Siebe to form BTR Siebe plc, which was renamed Invensys plc. In preparation, BTR sold any subsidiary operations, including Lister-Petter in 1996 to Schroders Venture Capital. In 2000, with Schroders looking to exit, the firm was bought through a £13.5M management buyout, enabled through selling the original Lister factory site to the South West Regional Development Agency. RAF Aston Down
Aston Down is in Gloucestershire, South West England, east of Minchinhampton, southeast of Stroud and west of Cirencester. The nearest settlement is the large village of Chalford, 1 mile (1.6 km) to the northwest. The airfield was used by the Royal Air Force from the First World War until 1967 when the Cotswold Gliding Club moved in from their previous base near Tetbury. In 2002 the land and most of hangars surrounding the airfield were sold by the Ministry of Defence to private developers for use as industrial units. Robert Ashton Lister
Sir Robert Ashton Lister (4 February 1845 – 6 December 1929) was a British Liberal Member of Parliament and founder of R A Lister and Company in Dursley, Gloucestershire, in 1867. He was elected to the House of Commons of the United Kingdom on 14 December 1918 to represent Stroud. He had previously contested the Tewkesbury seat three times without success. He was knighted in 1911 and created a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 1919 New Year Honours. He went to the Paris Exhibition of 1867 with an exhibit of his father's firm's machinery. In the same year he started business for himself, founding R A Lister and Company to produce agricultural machinery.
