Stokeham
Stokeham is a small village and civil parish in the Bassetlaw district, in the county of Nottinghamshire, England. In 1961 the parish had a population of 66, but this had dropped to 44 by the time of the 2021 census. Stokeham was recorded in the Domesday Book Domesday Book ( ; the Middle English spelling of "Doomsday Book") is a manuscript record of the Great Survey of much of England and parts of Wales completed in 1086 at the behest of William the Conqueror. The manuscript was originally known by ... as ''Estoches''. Methodism The village had a small Methodist chapel, now derelict. An article in the Transactions of the Thoroton Society referred to John Otter organising ‘mass missionary meetings’ in Stokeham every June. Otter was a common family name in the area with Otters also in Rampton and Laneham – where John seems to have been born in about 1813 according to the 1851 Census.
