The population is measured by Statistics Denmark for urban areas (Danish: ''byområder'' or ''bymæssige områder''), which is defined as a contiguous built-up area with a maximum distance of 200 m between houses, unless further distance is caused by public areas, cemeteries or similar reasons. Furthermore, to obtain ''by''-status, the area must have at least 200 inhabitants. Some urban areas in Denmark have witnessed conurbation and grown together. Tårnby Municipality
Tårnby Municipality (, ) is a '' kommune'' bordering Copenhagen Municipality on the island of Amager just east of Zealand in eastern Denmark. The municipality includes the islands of Saltholm (16 km2;2 inhabitants 1 January 2020) and Peberholm (1.3 km2), and covers an area of 64.95 km2 of which 48.9 on Amager. Rødovre
Rødovre () is a town in eastern Denmark, seat of the Rødovre Municipality, in the Capital Region of Denmark, Region Hovedstaden. The town's population 1 January 2019 was 39,907, and in addition 145 persons had no fixed address, which made up a total of 40,052 in the municipality as a whole. Hvidovre
Hvidovre is the main town in Hvidovre Municipality, Denmark. The town, a suburb of Copenhagen, is about 10 km southwest of the capital's center. It is the 2nd biggest suburb of Copenhagen, only beaten by Frederiksberg. History Hvidovre has been inhabited since prehistoric times. In 1929, a 3,500-year-old sword from the Bronze Age was excavated in Hvidovre. A farm, Ovre (Aworthe), was located in the area in about 1170 when Esbern Snare gave it to Sorø Abbey that later passed it on to Absalon, Bishop Absalon. A church was built during the Romanesque period. The name Hvidovre, meaning White Ovre, refers to the colour of the church, which was built in white chalk, as opposed to the one in Rødovre, Red Ovre, which was built in red brick. Gladsaxe
Gladsaxe Municipality () is a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') near Copenhagen in Region Hovedstaden on the island of Zealand (''Sjælland'') in eastern Denmark. The municipality covers an area of , and has a total population of 70,958 (2025). Its mayor is Trine Græse, a member of the Social Democrats (''Socialdemokraterne'') political party. The site of its municipal council is the town of Buddinge. Gentofte
Gentofte () is a district of Gentofte Municipality in the northern suburbs of Copenhagen, Denmark. Major landmarks include Gentofte Town Hall, Gentofte Hospital and Gentofte Church. Gentofte Lake with surrounding parkland and nature reserves form the most important greenspace. Geography Gentofte is roughly bounded by Lyngbyvej to the west, the Nordbanen, S-train line to Hillerød to the northeast, Bernstorffsvej to the east and Kildegårdsvej to the south. Frederiksberg () is a part of the Capital Region of Denmark. It is an independent municipality, Frederiksberg Municipality, separate from Copenhagen Municipality, but both are a part of the region of Copenhagen. Ishøj
Ishøj is a Danish town with a population of 21,465 (1. January 2024). It is situated in the Region Hovedstaden, and is the seat of the Ishøj Municipality. Geography The town is located by the coast in the southwestern suburban area of Copenhagen and is part of the city's urban area. Immigration During the 1960s to 1980s, Denmark attracted a large number of foreign workers. Many of these workers chose to remain in the country, with a significant number settling in Ishøj, which is today known for its diverse population, with immigrants and their descendants accounting for 37.5 percent of the total population. This makes Ishøj the municipality with the highest proportion of immigrants in Denmark.
