The name Gaemi has been used to name five tropical cyclones in the northwestern Pacific Ocean. In addition, the variant Kaemi was used in 2000 and 2006 before the WMO Typhoon Committee corrected the spelling. Tropical Storm Kaemi (2000)
Tropical Storm Kaemi was a weak tropical storm which affected Vietnam and Thailand during late August 2000. The nineteenth depression and eleventh tropical storm of the 2000 Pacific typhoon season, Kaemi originated from an area of convection offshore Vietnam. Somewhat favorable environmental conditions allowed the low-pressure area to strengthen, becoming a tropical depression on August 19. Further development occurred, and on August 21, the system peaked as a minimal tropical storm, being named Kaemi. Retaining its intensity, Kaemi made landfall over Da Nang, Vietnam that same day, weakening rapidly soon after. Becoming a tropical depression on August 23, Kaemi dissipated over Thailand on August 24. The passage of Kaemi in Vietnam brought heavy rainfall, with Da Nang receiving over of rainfall, significantly above their monthly averages. Typhoon Kaemi (2006)
Typhoon Kaemi, known in the Philippines as Typhoon Glenda, was a typhoon that struck Taiwan and China in mid-July 2006. Kaemi killed at least 32 people in China. Meteorological history A tropical depression formed on July 18, 2006, near the Caroline Islands and it quickly strengthened to tropical storm strength the same day. On July 19, the storm was named ''Kaemi'' by the JMA in Japan. The correct name ''Gaemi'' was submitted by South Korea and is a Korean word for ant (개미). Also, PAGASA named the storm ''Glenda''. It strengthened into a severe tropical storm on July 20, and further deepened into a typhoon 24 hours later. Kaemi made landfall in Longhai, Zhangzhou, Fujian at 3:50 p.m. CST on July 25 as a minimal typhoon. Tropical Storm Gaemi (2012)
Severe Tropical Storm Gaemi, known in the Philippines as Tropical Storm Marce, was an erratic tropical cyclone which affected the Philippines and Vietnam in early October 2012. The twentieth named storm of the 2012 Pacific typhoon season, Gamei originated as an area of convection over the central South China Sea on September 29. The system went northeastward and slowly gaining strength. On October 1, the depression became Tropical Storm Gaemi while turned southeastward. Gaemi briefly attained severe tropical storm statue on October 3, but weakened back to a tropical storm later that day. On the next day, Gaemi turned west-southwest and continued to slowly weakened. The storm made landfall in southern Vietnam on October 6 and weakened to a tropical depression shortly after landfall. Gaemi dissipated on the next day over Cambodia. The 2018 Pacific typhoon season was at the time, the costliest Pacific typhoon season on record, until the record was beaten by the following year. The season was well above-average, producing twenty-nine storms (including one that crossed over from the Eastern/Central Pacific), thirteen typhoons, seven super typhoons and six Category 5 tropical cyclones.
