Ceredigion
Ceredigion ( , , ) is a county in the west of Wales, corresponding to the historic county of Cardiganshire. During the second half of the first millennium Ceredigion was a minor kingdom. It has been administered as a county since 1282. Ceredigion is considered a centre of Welsh culture and just under half of the population can speak Welsh according to the 2011 Census. The county is mainly rural, with over of coastline and a mountainous hinterland. The numerous sandy beaches and the long-distance Ceredigion Coast Path provide views of Cardigan Bay. Ysgol Gymraeg Aberystwyth
Ysgol Gymraeg Aberystwyth is a Welsh language primary school in the university town of Aberystwyth in Ceredigion, Wales. It was established as a private school in 1939 by Sir Ifan ab Owen Edwards and was originally named Ysgol Gymraeg yr Urdd. The school was the first Welsh-medium school in Wales, the first headteacher being prominent dramatist Norah Isaac. The school originally had seven pupils, but has grown significantly since then and now educates over 400 children. The school expanded rapidly during the 1980s and 1990s as parents began to see the academic value in bilingual education. Although 95% of the students speak Welsh to a first language level, only 65% come from homes where Welsh is the main language spoken. Today, the school has 18 teachers, over 20 assistants and 15 auxiliary staff. Ysgol Gyfun Aberaeron is a bilingual comprehensive school for pupils aged between 11 and 18 years. The school is situated in the town of Aberaeron in Ceredigion, Wales. The school had 581 pupils on roll in 2022. 34% of pupils are from homes in which Welsh is the main language. However, 70% of pupils speak Welsh as a first language or to an equal standard. Ysgol Gyfun Gymunedol Penweddig (''Penweddig Community Comprehensive School'' in English) is a Welsh-language, community comprehensive school situated in Llanbadarn Fawr, Aberystwyth, Wales. The school was established in 1973. The school was the first Welsh language secondary school in Ceredigion and is named after the cantref of Penweddig, the northern part of the Kingdom of Ceredigion, between the rivers Dyfi and Ystwyth. The school had 608 pupils on roll in 2020. During the last Estyn school inspection, it was reported that Welsh is spoken at home by 69% of pupils, with all pupils being able to speak Welsh fluently.
