Boris Yefimovich Yefimov (; ,The birth record of Boris Fridlyand (Boris Yefimov) in the metric book of the Kiev rabbinate for 1900 ( ЦГИАК Украины. Ф. 1164. Оп. 1. Д. 454. Л. 435об—436.) (rus) – October 1, 2008) was a Russian political cartoonist best known for his critical political caricatures of Adolf Hitler and other Nazis produced before and during the Second World War, and was the chief illustrator of the newspaper ''Izvestia''. During his 90-year career he produced more than 70,000 drawings. Early life Yefimov was born in Kyiv as Boris Fridlyand, the second son of a Jewish shoemaker. Frank Parkinson Newbould
Frank Parkinson Newbould (24 September 1887 – 24 December 1951) was an English poster artist, known for his travel posters and Second World War posters for the War Office as assistant to Abram Games. Early life He was born in Bradford, to John Newbould (1856–1944), chemist, from Pateley Bridge, and Sara Ellen, née Robinson (1856–1941), also from Bradford. He was their only child. He was educated at Bradford College of Art and Camberwell School of Art. Career He worked mostly in London from the interwar period specialising in travel posters. His clients included the Empire Marketing Board; London Transport and its predecessors; the London & North Eastern, Great Western and London, Midland and Scottish Railways, and the Orient and Cunard Lines. Alfons Mucha
Alfons Maria Mucha (; 24 July 1860 – 14 July 1939), known internationally as Alphonse Mucha, was a Czech painter, illustrator, and graphic artist. Living in Paris during the Art Nouveau period, he was widely known for his distinctly stylized and decorative theatrical posters, particularly those of Sarah Bernhardt. He produced illustrations, advertisements, decorative panels, as well as designs, which became among the best-known images of the period. In the second part of his career, at the age of 57, he returned to his homeland and devoted himself to a series of twenty monumental symbolist canvases known as '' The Slav Epic'', depicting the history of all the Slavic peoples of the world, which he painted between 1912 and 1926. In 1928, on the 10th anniversary of the independence of Czechoslovakia, he presented the series to the Czech nation. He considered it his most important work. Dmitry Moor
D. Moor () was the professional name of Dmitry Stakhievich Orlov (; 3 November 1883 in Novocherkassk – 24 October 1946 in Moscow), a Russian artist noted for his propaganda posters. The pseudonym "Moor" was taken from the name of the protagonists in Friedrich Schiller's play ''The Robbers''. He was also the chief artist for the ''Bezbozhnik (magazine), Bezbozhnik'' ("The godless") magazine. (''Bezbozhnik'' Magazine, Moscow, USSR). The page is in UTF-8 encoding. Achille Mauzan
Achille Lucien Mauzan (1883, in Gap, Hautes-Alpes – 1952, in Gap) was born on the French Riviera, but moved to Italy in 1905, known as a decorative illustrator designing during the Art Deco movement, though he also painted and sculpted. After a period of study in the École des Beaux-Arts at Lyon, France, Mauzan divided his life between Milan, Paris and Buenos Aires. Between the years 1920 and 1940, the period between the wars, he used forms and materials under the influence of the avant-garde cubists. He was also an illustrator of posters and postcards. During his career as a poster printer and designer, Mauzan designed over 2,000 posters, using a style marked by humor and brilliant colors for advertisement and events and over 1,000 postcard images. He made several important posters for the Italian film industry in Turin, and then went to work at Ricordi music publishing from 1912 to 1917. Privat Antoine Théodore Livemont (1861–1936) was a Belgian Symbolist painter and Art Nouveau decorator who sometimes worked under the name T. Privat-Livemont. Life Livemont was born in Schaerbeek, Brussels, on 9 October 1861, to Henri Livemont and Marie Catherine Richard. Gustav Klutsis
Gustav Gustavovich Klutsis (, ; 4 January 1895 – 26 February 1938) was a pioneering Latvian photographer and major member of the Constructivist avant-garde in the early 20th century. He is known for the Soviet revolutionary and Stalinist propaganda he produced with his wife Valentina Kulagina and for the development of photomontage techniques. Biography Born in Ķoņi parish, near Rūjiena, Klutsis began his artistic training in Riga in 1912. In 1915 he was drafted into the Russian Army, serving in a Latvian riflemen detachment, then went to Moscow in 1917. Ludwig Hohlwein
Ludwig Hohlwein (26 July 1874 in Wiesbaden – 15 September 1949 in Berchtesgaden) was a German poster artist, a pioneer of the ''Sachplakat'' style. He trained and practiced as an architect in Munich before he switched to poster design. Early years Hohlwein was born in the Rhine-Main region of Germany, though he and his work are associated with Munich and Bavaria in southern Germany. There were two schools of "Gebrauchsgrafik" in Germany at the time, North and South. Hohlwein's high tonal contrasts and a network of interlocking shapes made his work instantly recognizable. Career A large portion of his work dates to 1908-1925. His style usually consists of sharply defined forms, bright colors, a good portion of humor and textured patterns. Albert Guillaume
Albert Guillaume (14 February 1873 – 10 August 1942) was a French painter and caricaturist. Born in Paris, France, Albert Guillaume became a leading caricaturist during the Belle Époque. While remembered for his poster art, Guillaume also did oil paintings such as "Soirée parisienne," a portrait of Parisian dinner society. He created theater posters as well as advertising posters that were greatly influenced by the work of one of the preeminent poster painters, Jules Chéret. Poster art Guillaume thrived during the international poster mania of the Gay Nineties. Tadeusz Gronowski
Tadeusz Lucjan Gronowski (5 October 1894 in Warsaw–20 February 1990 in Warsaw) was a Polish graphic artist, architect who worked as an interior designer, painter, and a book illustrator. He is considered to be one of the creators of the Polish modern poster. Among his works is the still-used logo of the LOT Polish Airlines, which dates to 1929.
