The destruction of musical instruments is an act performed by a few pop, rock and other musicians during live performances, particularly at the end of the gig. Early years The act of destroying instruments has origins in animation performances as far back as the 1930's. Robin Page
Robin Page (2 November 1932 – 12 May 2015) was a British painter. He was one of the early members of the Fluxus art movement. Biography Page was born in England in 1932. His father, Peter Carter-Page, was a humorist and cartoonist who worked as an animator at the Disney studios in Hollywood in the 1930s. The family moved to Canada where the young Page lived until the age of 27. Page moved back to Europe in 1959. He taught at Leeds College of Art in the north of England until 1967. He then moved to West Germany and associated with Fluxus artists, such as Robert Filliou, Dieter Roth, Dorothy Iannone, Daniel Spoerri, and Ben Vautier. Page performed many Happenings, including one titled ''Guitar'', which involved him in kicking his guitar with the help of an audience along The Mall, London for the ICA's Misfits concert. Fluxus
Fluxus was an international, interdisciplinary community of artists, composers, designers, and poets during the 1960s and 1970s who engaged in experimental performance art, art performances which emphasized the artistic process over the finished product. Raphael Montañez Ortiz
Raphael Montañez Ortiz (born in Brooklyn, New York January 30, 1934) is an American artist, educator, and founder of El Museo del Barrio, in East Harlem, New York City. Education Montañez Ortiz graduated from Art and Design High School of New York City, and studied at Pratt Institute, where he began as a student of architecture, but later decided instead to become a visual artist, and received his BFA and MFA in 1964. He completed a doctorate in Fine Arts and Fine Arts in Higher Education at Teachers College of Columbia University in 1982.
