List Of Mayors Of Timișoara
This is a list of mayors of Timișoara from 1718, when Banat, including Timișoara, were incorporated into the Kingdom of Hungary, to the present day when it is part of Romania. The position was created on 1 January 1718 by Count Claude Florimond de Mercy, governor of Banat, under the name of magistrate. Until 1780, Timișoara had two magistrates, one German for the German population settled here and one Illyrian or Rascian for the local population. The first German magistrate of the city was , a campaign medical doctor from Bavaria and among the first foreign, Western settlers to arrive in Timișoara. Nicolae Robu (born May 28, 1955) is a Romanian politician, engineer, and computer science professor. He was mayor of Timișoara from 2012 until 2020 and the former president of PNL Timiș. Gheorghe Ciuhandu
Gheorghe Coriolan Ciuhandu (; born 15 June 1947) is a Romanian politician. A building engineer by profession, he graduated from the Traian Vuia Polytechnic Institute in 1970, earning a doctorate in 1986 and joining the faculty in 1993. He was the mayor of Timișoara from 1996 to 2012 and was one of the losing candidates for president in the 2004 presidential elections, in which he represented the Christian Democratic National Peasants' Party (PNȚCD). Viorel Oancea (born 8 December 1944 in Brașov, Brașov County, Romania) is a retired Romanian politician and a retired major general in the Romanian Armed Forces. He was advanced in rank by Presidential decree issued by former President Traian Băsescu on 21 October 2010. Gheorghe Crăciun (8 May 1950, Zărnești – 30 January 2007, Constanța) was a Romanian writer and translator. Crăciun was born in Tohanu Vechi, now part of Zărnești, Brașov County. In addition to being a novelist and a translator, he was also a literary theorist. He graduated from High School in Sighișoara, and later studied at the Philology Department of the University of Bucharest. From 1990 he taught at the Department of Literature at Brașov University. Lucian Georgevici
Lucian Georgevici (January 16, 1875–February 9, 1940) was an Austro-Hungarian-born Romanian lawyer and politician. Born in Ictar, Timiș County, in the Banat region, his parents were George and Cristina Georgevici. He attended the primary grades at a church school in his native village, followed by high school in Timișoara, Lugoj and Beiuș, taking his graduating examination at Samuil Vulcan High School in the latter town. His parents would have liked him to be a priest, but he chose to attend the law academy in Oradea, and took his examination at the law faculty of Franz Joseph University in Cluj. Karl Leopold Von Möller
Karl Leopold von Möller (11 October 1876 – 21 February 1943) was an Austrian military officer, author and German nationalist politician. He was born into a military family of the Austro-Hungarian nobility and became a senior general staff officer in the Austro-Hungarian Army, rising to the rank of ''Oberst'' (colonel) and regimental commandant. From 1932 to 1933, Möller was the 1st Gauleiter of the Banat. He was an enthusiastic supporter of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party and, in 1932, founded the antisemitic newspaper "Der Stürmer" in Timișoara, an imitation of the German Nazi publication. Rascians ( / ''Raši, Rašani''; ) was a historical term for Serbs. The term was derived from the Latinized name for the central Serbian region of Raška (; sr-Cyrl, Рашка). In medieval and early modern Western sources, exonym ''Rascia'' was often used as a designation for Serbian lands in general, and consequently the term ''Rasciani'' became one of the most common designations for Serbs. Dominic Samuel Fritz (born 28 December 1983) is a German-born politician who has been serving as the mayor of Timișoara since 2020, winning re-election in 2024. A member of the Save Romania Union, he is the only mayor in Romania without Romanian citizenship.
