Intersex
Intersex people are those born with any of several sex characteristics, including chromosome patterns, gonads, or genitals that, according to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, "do not fit typical binary notions of male or female bodies". Sex assignment at birth usually aligns with a child's external genitalia. The number of births with ambiguous genitals is in the range of 1:4,500–1:2,000 (0.02%–0.05%). Other conditions involve the development of atypical chromosomes, gonads, or hormones. The portion of the population that is intersex has been reported differently depending on which definition of intersex is used and which conditions are included. Estimates range from 0.018% (one in 5,500 births) to 1.7%. Different From The Others
''Different from the Others'' () is a silent German melodramatic film produced during the Weimar Republic. It was first released in 1919 and stars Conrad Veidt and Reinhold Schünzel. It was directed by Richard Oswald, and the story co-written by Oswald and Magnus Hirschfeld, who also had a small part in the film and partially funded the production through his Institute for Sexual Science. The film was intended as a polemic against the then-current laws under Germany's Paragraph 175, which made homosexuality a criminal offense. It was one of the first sympathetic portrayals of gay men in cinema. Censorship laws were enacted in reaction to films like ''Anders als die Andern'' and by October 1920 only doctors and medical researchers could view it. Prints of the film were among the many "decadent" works burned by the Nazis after they came to power in 1933. Gynecomastia (also spelled gynaecomastia) is the non-cancerous enlargement of one or both breasts in men due to the growth of breast tissue as a result of a hormone imbalance between estrogens and androgens. Updated by Brent Wisse (10 November 2018) Physically speaking, gynecomastia is completely benign, but it is associated with significant psychological distress, social stigma, and dysphoria. Gynecomastia can be normal in newborn male babies due to exposure to estrogen from the mother, in adolescent boys going through puberty, in older men over the age of 50, and in obese men. Most occurrences of gynecomastia do not require diagnostic tests. The phrase is most often associated with transgender health care, though many such treatments are also pursued by cisgender individuals. Josephine Joseph
Josephine-Joseph () was the stage name of an American performer who was prominent in circus sideshows and the carnival circuits during the early 20th century. Biography Josephine-Joseph's birth name as well as date of birth and death is unknown and although prominent in circus performance, JJ is probably best known for her film role in the Tod Browning, pre-code production '' Freaks'' in 1932, her only screen credit. Her body was supposedly split down the middle, one side female and the other male. She claimed to be an intersex person or "true hermaphrodite" as it was called in her time, but there is no evidence to confirm whether this was the case; she may have just been a very skilled impersonator, in the style of Albert-Alberta Karas. Enrique Riveros Fernandez (1906–1954), was a Chilean actor who worked primarily in films in France, most notably with directors Jean Renoir and Jean Cocteau, before retiring from the screen and moving back to Chile to raise his children.
