Dwarfism is a condition of people and animals marked by unusually small size or short stature. In humans, it is sometimes defined as an adult height of less than , regardless of sex; the average adult height among people with dwarfism is . The Belangenvereniging van Kleine Mensen (BVKM) (English: ''Interest Association of Little People'') is the Dutch Patients' Organization for little people and patients with skeletal dysplasia. The association focuses on individuals with one or more of the two hundred medical conditions falling under the category of dwarfism. Most members have a demonstrable growth disorder and are shorter than . Volunteers are responsible for the organization. Establishment The BVKM was founded in December 1973 by Lenie Voorn (''née'' Matton), as a Dutch organization providing support and information to people of short stature and their families. Dwarf Sports Association UK
The Dwarf Sports Association UK (DSAUK) aims to "make regular sporting opportunities accessible and enjoyable to ... everyone of restricted growth in the United Kingdom". The association was founded by Arthur Dean and fellow members of the Restricted Growth Association (RGA) at the October 1993 RGA Annual Conference. This followed Dean's participation in the first World Dwarf Games in Chicago, organised by the Dwarf Athletic Association of America (DAAA). In 2014 Arthur and Penny Dean were both honoured with OBEs for their work over many years supporting and developing sport for people with Dwarfism and Restricted growth. The association has organised the UK National Dwarf Games since 1995. The 2014 event, in Birmingham and Wolverhampton, attracted about 200 athletes. Restricted Growth Association
The Restricted Growth Association (RGA) is a UK charity that supports people with dwarfism (restricted growth). The RGA was formed in 1970 by Charles Pocock, Martin Nelson and other individuals in the UK wanting to provide a support network for people with restricted growth (dwarfism). Initially known as the Association into Research of Restricted Growth, the charity aims to support all individuals and their families affected by skeletal dysplasia leading to short stature. The Dwarf Athletic Association of America (DAAA) is an American athletic organization that sponsors and organizes athletic events for people with dwarfism. History Founded in 1985, the DAAA's purpose is to develop, promote, and provide little people athletes with organized and quality amateur athletics in a supportive environment. DAAA holds the idea that there is a lack of sports opportunity for little people in America and they look to fill the void and provide an environment that rewards dwarf athletes by taking their potential seriously and giving them a realistic opportunity to succeed through hard work and dedication. Little People Of America
Little People of America (LPA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which provides support, resources, and information to individuals with dwarfism and their families. Founding LPA was founded in 1957 by actor Billy Barty when he informally called upon people of short stature to join him in a get-together in Reno, Nevada. The original association was known as Midgets of America until 1960. The name was later changed to Midgets and Dwarfs of America when the people with dwarfism complained that there were more dwarfs than midgets. That original meeting of 21 people evolved into Little People of America, a group which as of 2023 has more than 7,500 members. The Human Growth Foundation is a nonprofit group that works with people with growth deficiencies. It is financed mainly by Genentech and CVS Caremark, Caremark.
