Death-doom
Death-doom (also known as death-doom metal or doom-death) is a fusion genre of death metal and doom metal. It combines the slow tempos and pessimistic or depressive mood of doom metal with the deep death growl, growling vocals and double bass drum, double-kick drumming of death metal. The genre emerged in the late 1980s and gained a certain amount of popularity during the 1990s, but had become less common by the turn of the 21st century. In turn, death-doom gave rise to the closely related genre of funeral doom as well as to the more melodic, gloomy and romantic gothic metal. Corrupted (band)
Corrupted are a Japanese doom/sludge metal band, formed in Osaka in 1994. They are known for avoiding interviews and publicity. They have recorded several albums, including split albums with other artists and perform regularly in Japan and abroad. Musical style They were described by JB Roe of Grooveshark as "some of the heaviest, gloomiest doom/sludge around, distinctly cacophonous, layering feedback pulverizing progressions into a distinctly cacophonous rumble." However, some songs feature long acoustic sections, spoken-word interludes, and unconventional instruments. An example of the latter can be found on their 2005 album '' El mundo frio'', which is a 72-minute song with extensive sections of harp. Iann Robinson wrote on Nonelouder.com, "Right when you think you can peg Corrupted as an all Doom band they release a lush acoustic set within their bleak musical landscape." Funeral (band)
Funeral are a Norwegian doom metal band formed in 1991 by Thomas Angell and Anders Eek; soon afterward, Einar Frederiksen joined as bassist and songwriter and Christian Loos joined as guitarist. They are known as one of the pioneers of the funeral doom genre. History In 1993, the band recorded their first demo, entitled ''Tristesse'', released the following year as a mini CD by an American record label. According to the official Funeral website this demo won them the title of "the most depressing band in the world". Funeral then made a decision to turn more symphonic and the result was shown on their demo ''Beyond All Sunsets''. In 1994 the band became one of the first doom metal bands to recruit a female vocalist, Toril Snyen. In 1995 they released the album '' Tragedies''. In the same year, they parted with Toril Snyen. Forest Stream
Forest Stream is a symphonic black / doom / gothic metal band formed in Chernogolovka, Russia in 1995. The band draws inspiration from long and harsh Russian winters. Stylistically, the band's epic sound combines the atmosphere of the British doom metal of the 1990s and of the Norwegian black metal. The band's lyrics revolve around the themes of sorrow and hopelessness. Their first album, '' Tears of Mortal Solitude'' was released in early 2003 and was warmly received by the critics. In May 2007, the band went on their first international tour in Ukraine. In September 2007, the band was signed by Candlelight Records and recording for their second album, '' The Crown of Winter'', commenced soon after. The band are currently believed to be unsigned. Evoken
Evoken is an American funeral doom band from Lyndhurst, New Jersey, United States. Evoken is one of the earliest U.S. death-doom bands that are still active today, along with Novembers Doom and Rigor Sardonicous. History Founding years The band was founded by guitarist Nick Orlando under the name Funereus in April 1992. The original line-up consisted of Rob (bass/vocals), Nick (guitar), Phil (guitar) and Vince (drums). They recorded a rehearsal demo in 1992, which would be the only release under the Funereus name. After briefly changing their name to Asmodeus the following year, the band eventually decided upon the name Evoken in 1994 after several line-up changes. The name was taken from the Thergothon song found on the '' Fhtagn nagh Yog-Sothoth'' demo. The Eternal (band)
The Eternal are an Australian gothic/doom metal band formed in 2003 by Mark Kelson (ex- Cryptal Darkness) on guitar, vocals and keyboards. They are known for playing dark, melodic, doom metal with eastern and gothic influences. History The Eternal were formed in Melbourne in mid-2003 by former members of doom metal act Cryptal Darkness. The founders were Ryan Buesnel on drums; Chris Burton on guitar; James Hunt on bass guitar; Mark Kelson on guitar and lead vocals; and Chris Stevenson on keyboards. Late that year, they signed a two-album deal with Firebox Records of Finland on the basis of their self-titled extended play. Esoteric (band)
Esoteric is an English funeral doom metal band from Birmingham, founded in 1992. Releasing seven studio albums, and a demo, the band is widely regarded as among the first groups to develop the funeral doom style. The band has named a variety of groups as influences, such as metal bands Morbid Angel and My Dying Bride, more "trippy" artists such as Pink Floyd, Spacemen 3, and King Crimson, and the industrial and dark ambient genres. History Esoteric was formed in 1992, and in 1993, released '' Esoteric Emotions – The Death of Ignorance'' – a demo tape containing 82 minutes of material with a total of eight tracks. Shortly thereafter they received an offer from Aesthetic Death to record a full-length CD of new material. Cross Rhythms is a Christian media organisation based in Stoke-on-Trent, England. It operates an FM and online radio station, produces radio shows sent internationally, and its website has resources about contemporary Christian music. History 1983–2002 In 1983, Chris Cole started a 30-minute weekly Christian music radio show on Plymouth Sound FM, an Independent Local Radio station in Plymouth. Originally titled ''The Solid Rock of Jesus Christ'', the programme aired on Sunday evenings. ''Cross Rhythms'' was the eponymously titled music magazine, founded by Tony Cummings produced by the Christian media organisation of the same name. ''Cross Rhythms'' centered almost exclusively on contemporary Christian music, with only the occasional review of more mainstream music. Each issue included interviews with musicians and bands, reviews of various albums and compilations, and features on music festivals or productions. Each issue also included a CD, narrated by Mike Rimmer, containing a selection of the songs featured in the magazine. Drottnar is an extreme metal band from Fredrikstad, Norway. Formed in 1996, the band has released four albums, '' Spiritual Battle'' (2000), '' Welterwerk'' (2006), ''Stratum'' (2012) and ''Monolith'' (2019) and an EP titled ''Anamorphosis'' (2003). Draconian (band)
Draconian is a Swedish gothic metal band formed in Säffle in 1994. The band's lineup had changed over the years, with only founding members Anders Jacobsson and Johan Ericson still active. Since the release of their first album ''Where Lovers Mourn'' in 2003 the lineup has been mostly stable, with Jerry Torstensson on drums, and Lisa Johansson and Heike Langhans alternately singing clean vocal parts.
