Iceland
Iceland is a Nordic countries, Nordic island country between the Atlantic Ocean, North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans, on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge between North America and Europe. It is culturally and politically linked with Europe and is the region's westernmost and most list of countries and dependencies by population density, sparsely populated country. Egó
Egó was a musical band founded in Reykjavík, Iceland), in the fall of 1981 by Bubbi Morthens with his younger brother and guitarist Bergþór Morthens and their friend, bassist Þorleifur Guðjónsson. Egó's first drummer was Jóhann Richards (aka "Motorhead"), and for a while guitarist Ragnar Sigurðsson played along with them. Jóhann and Ragnar were replaced by drummer Magnús Stefánsson and Tómas Magnús Tómasson. Bubbi Morthens, the frontman and main lyricist in the band had been part of influential punk/rock/reggie band Utangarðsmenn, but had been fired from the band for reportedly having a "big ego", which was also allegedly the reason for the band name "Egó". Jakobínarína
Jakobínarína were an Icelandic six-piece indie-punk band from Hafnarfjörður. Jakobinarina were formed by Ágúst Fannar Ásgeirsson, Björgvin Ingi Pétursson, Gunnar Bergmann, Hallberg Dadi Hallbergsson, Heimir Gestur Valdimarsson and Sigurdur Möller Sívertsen in 2004 when they were at school and gained attention and success after they won the Icelandic version of Battle of the Bands, Músíktilraunir in 2005. In 2006, they performed at the South by Southwest festival, and released their first EP ''His Lyrics Are Disastrous'' on Rough Trade Records. Jagúar (band)
Jagúar () is a funk band formed in 1998 in Reykjavík, Iceland. They went international in 2000, when they performed at the "1000 years since the Vikings found America" celebration in New York City. The band gained critical acclaim for their second album, ''Get the Funk Out'', which won the Icelandic Music Awards' 2001 "Album of the Year". The band and its many current and former members continue to be active in the Icelandic jazz scene. History The original lineup consisted of Daði Birgisson ( keyboards), Ingi S. Skúlason (bass), Jón Indriðason (drums), Börkur H. Birgisson (guitar), Hrafn Ásgeirsson (tenor sax) and Birkir Mattíasson (trumpet), who were interested in playing funk, soul and jazz. Ingó Og Veðurguðirnir
Ingó og Veðurguðirnir (in English Ingó and the Weathergods) is an Icelandic musical formation made up of Ingó (full name Ingólfur Þórarinsson) as main vocalist and acoustic guitar player with Maggi (guitar), Eyþór (bass) and Óskar (drums). Ingó og Veðurguðirnir are best known for their summer hit " Bahama". The song stayed at the top of Tónlist, the official Icelandic Singles Chart for 9 consecutive weeks in 2008. They peaked the Iceland charts for one week in 2009 with "Nóttin er liðin". Another hit for Ingó og Veðurguðirnir called "Gestalistinn" stayed for 9 weeks at the top of Tónlist charts (2009 weeks 39 to 46 and week 48). Other releases by the formation include "Argentína". Hatari (band)
Hatari (; ) are an Icelandic techno, Industrial music, industrial and punk rock band and performance art group from Reykjavík. Their public image incorporates elements of anti-capitalism and BDSM attire. The band currently consists of Klemens Hannigan, Einar Stefánsson and Davíð Katrínarson, the latter of whom replacing original member Matthías Haraldsson in 2023. They have released an album and an extended play, encompassing several singles. Hatari Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019, represented Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 with their song "Hatrið mun sigra", finishing tenth. GusGus
GusGus is an electronic music band from Reykjavík, Iceland. Although initially a film and acting collective, the group is mostly known for its electronic music. The group's discography consists of twelve studio albums. History GusGus was initially formed in 1995 as a film and acting collective. The band's name refers to the 1974 German film '' Ali: Fear Eats the Soul'' () by Rainer Werner Fassbinder, where a female character is cooking couscous for her lover, pronouncing it ''Gusgus''. GusGus' music is eclectic, and although primarily classified as techno, trip hop, and house music, the band has experimented with other styles. They have remixed songs of popular artists such as Björk, Depeche Mode, Moloko, and Sigur Rós. Fræbbblarnir
Fræbbblarnir is an Icelandic punk-pop musical group. They were formed in Iceland in 1978 and released a number of records until they quit early in 1983. A punk-pop band playing short, melodic songs fast and raw, they were inspired by the Ramones, Clash, Stranglers, Jam, Sex Pistols, Damned, Alberto Y Lost Trios Paranoias, Stiff Little Fingers, Undertones, Buzzcocks, Crass, Elvis Costello, Ian Dury and the rest of the early punk and New Wave scene, as well as 1960s bands like the Kinks and Troggs. They appeared in the documentary Rokk í Reykjavík, and the album “Viltu nammi væna?” is regarded as a classic. Its members continued playing on and off under various names until a compilation album was released by Smekkleysa (“Bad Taste”) in 1996, when the original band was re-formed.
