Schweizerischer Studentenverein
The Schweizerischer Studentenverein (''Swiss Student's Society'', abbreviation SSS; French: ''Société des Etudiants Suisses'') is a society of colour bearing students of both genders and at the same time a federation of student corporations which are called ''sections''. Its members are students and former students of high schools, universities and universities of applied sciences in Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Italy. Formerly, sections also existed in Belgium, France and in the Czech Republic. Its motto is ''virtus, scientia, amicitia!'' History The SSS was founded on August 31, 1841, as the federation of the catholic-conservative, colour-bearing and non-duelling corporations of Switzerland. Its insignia are since 1851 a red-white-green ribbon and since 1861 a red hat. The member corporations are free to choose any shade of red and the type of hat. AV (Akademische Verbindung; ''academic society'') Fryburgia is a fraternity or Studentenverbindung at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland. Male students of all faculties are eligible to become members. The fraternity is a section of the Schweizerischer Studentenverein (''Swiss Student's Society;'' SSS). History In the early years of the 20th century, fraternity life in Europe became more and more time consuming. Fraternity students had to be present at a large number of festivities such as balls, kneipen and kommerse. This cost time and money which the students would have needed for their studies – idle semesters with no actual study success were common. The very strict rules and the obligation to consume alcohol in these fraternities made it even more difficult to follow a meaningful daily routine at university and the reputation of the students was very bad. Wengia Solodorensis
The Wengia Solodorensis is the oldest Studentenverbindung (; also referred as "Verbindung"; translated as student society or fraternity) at the Kantonsschule Solothurn, the cantonal college of higher academic education. The members of the "Wengia" refer to themselves as "Wengianer".
