Igor Chernat (russian: И́горь Черна́т; c. 1966 – October 21, 1987), known as The Evil Spirit of Kaukjarvi (russian: Злой дух Каукъярви), was a Soviet serial killer who killed at least 4 women between 1985 and 1986. Biography Very little is known about the life of Igor Chernat before his murders. It is known that he was born in Odessa, and that he studied at the Velikodolinskaya Secondary School Nmb. 1 in the Odessa Oblast. After graduating from 8th grade, he entered a vocational school. He lived on Pionerskoy Street, and studied as a driver in the DOSAAF. In 1985, he was drafted into the ranks of the Soviet Army, where he served as an IFV driver. Biography Little is known about Gridin's early life. It is known that he was born into a family well-respected in the city. His father was the head of the workshop at the Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works, and Gridin was a student at the Magnitogorsk State Technical University, was married, and had a six-month-old daughter. Gridin committed his first murder on July 31, 1989, killing 16-year-old Zhana Terenchuk on the porch of her house. Obvodny Canal (russian: Обводный канал, lit. Bypass Canal) is the longest canal in Saint Petersburg, Russia, which in the 19th century served as the southern limit of the city. It is long and flows from the Neva River near Alexander Nevsky Lavra to the Yekaterinhofka not far from the sea port. The canal was dug in 1769–1780 and 1805–1833.
