''Robin's Nest'' is a British sitcom produced by Thames Television that aired on the ITV (TV network), ITV network for six series from 11 January 1977 to 31 March 1981. Richard O'Sullivan reprised the role of Robin Tripp, a lead character from the sitcom ''Man About the House'', which had ended on 7 April 1976. The series costars Tessa Wyatt as Robin's girlfriend and later wife Vicky, and Tony Britton as her father. O'Sullivan and Wyatt were a romantic couple in real life at the time and had a son together. Thames Television, commonly simplified to just Thames, was a franchise holder for a region of the British ITV television network serving London and surrounding areas from 30 July 1968 until the night of 31 December 1992. Thames Television broadcast from 09:25 Monday morning to 17:15 Friday afternoon (19:00 Friday night until 1982) at which time it would hand over to London Weekend Television (LWT). Formed as a joint company, it merged the television interests of British Electric Traction (trading as Associated-Rediffusion) owning 49%, and Associated British Picture Corporation—soon taken over by EMI—owning 51%. Richard O'Sullivan (born 7 May 1944) is an English comedy actor. He is known for his role as Robin Tripp in the TV sitcoms ''Man About the House'' (1973–1976) and '' Robin's Nest'' (1977–1981) and as the title character in the period adventure series ''Dick Turpin'' (1979–1982). He also starred in '' Doctor at Large'' (1971), '' Doctor in Charge'' (1972–1973), '' Alcock and Gander'' (1972), ''Me and My Girl'' (1984–1988) and '' Trouble In Mind'' (1991). Early life O'Sullivan was born in 1944 to John and Ellen O'Sullivan (née Fleming) in Chiswick, where he grew up with his younger brother. ''Man About the House'' is a British sitcom created by Brian Cooke and Johnnie Mortimer. It starred Richard O'Sullivan, Paula Wilcox, Sally Thomsett, Yootha Joyce and Brian Murphy (actor), Brian Murphy. Anthony Edward Lowry Britton (9 June 1924 – 22 December 2019) was an English actor. He appeared in a variety of films (including '' The Day of the Jackal'') and television sitcoms (including '' Don't Wait Up'' and '' Robin's Nest''). Background Britton was born in Erdington, Birmingham, the son of Doris Marguerite (née Jones) and Edward Leslie Britton. His father was landlord of the Trocadero public house on Temple Street in Birmingham. He attended Edgbaston Collegiate School, Birmingham and Thornbury Grammar School, Gloucestershire. During the Second World War he served in the Army and he also worked for an estate agent and in an aircraft factory. He joined an amateur dramatics group in Weston-super-Mare and then turned professional, appearing on stage at the Old Vic and with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
