The Occupy movement is the international branch of the Occupy Wall Street movement that protests against social and economic inequality around the world, its primary goal being to make the economic and political relations in all societies less vertically hierarchical and more flatly distributed. Local groups often have different focuses, but the movement's principle focus is to highlight that large corporations (and the global financial system) control the world in a way that disproportionately benefits a minority, undermines democracy, and is unstable. In mathematics, a combination is a selection of items from a set that has distinct members, such that the order of selection does not matter (unlike permutations). ''Fuelling Poverty'' is a 2012 Nigerian documentary by Ishaya Bako that narrates the activities of the Occupy Nigeria movement when it was at its climax in early 2012. The 28 minutes video also features special appearances from Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, Femi Falana, Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai, Seun Kuti and Desmond Elliot. It won the ''Best Documentary'' award at the 9th Africa Movie Academy Awards. Censorship The Nigerian government through the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) banned the video from public exhibition stating that "...the contents of the film are highly provocative and likely to incite or encourage public disorder and undermine national security." Progressive Stack
The progressive stack is a technique used to give marginalized groups a greater chance to speak. It is sometimes an introduction to, or stepping stone to, consensus decision-making in which simple majorities have less power. The technique works by allowing people to speak on the basis of race, sex, and other group membership, with preference given to members of groups that are considered the most marginalized. Overview The progressive stack technique attempts to counter what its proponents believe is a flaw in traditional representative democracy, where the majority is heard while the minority or non-dominant groups are silenced or ignored. In practice, "majority culture" may be interpreted by progressive stack practitioners to mean white people, heterosexual people, or men while non-dominant groups include women, people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer, people of color, and very young or older people. ''Occupy This Album: 99 Songs for the 99 Percent'' is a four-disc compilation box set released in May 2012 through the record label Music for Occupy. The album concept, and initial production was initiated by Executive Producer Jason Samel. Jason Samel later recruited Producers Maegan Hayward, Alex Emanuel and Shirley Menard to assist with the project. The set consists of 99 songs inspired by or related to the Occupy movement. Proceeds from the album went "directly towards the needs of sustaining this growing movement." ''Occupy Love'' is a 2012 documentary film about the Occupy movement directed by Velcrow Ripper. The film premiered at the 2012 Vancouver International Film Festival. Occupy Homes or Occupy Our Homes is part of the Occupy movement which attempts to prevent the foreclosure of people's homes. Protesters delay foreclosures by camping out on the foreclosed property. They also stage protests at the banks responsible for the ongoing foreclosure crisis, sometimes blocking their entrances. It has been compared to the direct action taken by people to prevent home foreclosures during the Great Depression in the United States. Occupy Faith is an ally of the Occupy movement that supports the movement due to its members religious and spiritual values. Groups are established by activists and religious leaders. In the United States, in 2011, a national gathering was held in New York City at the Judson Memorial Church. Representatives attended from a diverse set of spiritual and religious communities. A result of the gathering was a statement about the way members of Occupy Faith would be involved in Occupy Wall Street, specifically about having an open democracy, affordable housing, quality education, and other values. Occupy Buffer Zone (OBZ) was a protest movement that began on October 15, 2011 by Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot activists, in the Ledra Street checkpoint, in Nicosia, Cyprus. The movement began with a weekly occupation of the checkpoint, which is located in the buffer zone that divides the island's territory and capital into the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Republic of Cyprus since the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974. On November 19 of 2011 the occupation of the buffer zone became permanent. Mashtots Park Movement ( hy, Մաշտոցի պուրակի շարժում), also known as #SaveMashtotsPark and OccupyMashtots began as a sit-in on February 11, 2012 in Mashtots Park, Yerevan. The protest was initiated by "This City Belongs to Us" civic initiative, and grew into a full-scale movement.
