The list of Nova Scotia by-elections includes every by-election held in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. By-elections occur whenever there is a vacancy in the House of Assembly, although an imminent general election may allow the vacancy to remain until the dissolution of parliament. Between 1840 and 1927 incumbent members were required to recontest their seats upon being appointed to Cabinet. Lenore Zann (born November 22, 1959) is a Canadian actress and politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the riding of Cumberland—Colchester in the House of Commons of Canada as a member of the Liberal Party. Argyle-Barrington
Argyle-Barrington was a provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada, that elects one member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. The riding was created in 2012 with 100 per cent of the former district of Argyle and 52 per cent of the former district of Shelburne. It consists of the Municipality of Argyle, the town of Clark's Harbour, and the Municipality of Barrington. Fishing is the economic mainstay of the area, although manufacturing and the service sector are significant employers. Sydney—Victoria
Sydney—Victoria was a federal electoral district (Canada), electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1997 to 2025. It was created in 1996 from parts of Cape Breton—The Sydneys, Cape Breton—East Richmond and Cape Breton Highlands—Canso electoral districts. Its first Member of Parliament (Canada), Member of Parliament (MP) was Peter Mancini and its final MP was Jaime Battiste. Eddie Orrell
Ralph Edward Orrell (born February 7, 1965) is a Canadian politician. He represented the electoral district of Northside-Westmount in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from June 2011 to July 2019 as a Progressive Conservative. On June 21, 2011, Orrell was elected in a byelection for the electoral district of Cape Breton North. In the 2013 provincial election, Orrell was re-elected in the new riding of Northside-Westmount. He was re-elected in the 2017 election. On May 10, 2019, Orrell announced he will seek the Conservative nomination in Sydney—Victoria for the 2019 federal election. Northside-Westmount
Northside-Westmount is a provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada, that elects one member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. In 1933, the County of Cape Breton was divided into five electoral districts, one of which was Cape Breton North, which was carved out of parts of Cape Breton Centre and Cape Breton East. In 2003, the district gained upper North Sydney as far as Balls Creek and Point Aconi. In 2013, the district was renamed Northside-Westmount and it lost the area west of Little Bras d'Or to Victoria-The Lakes and gained the area north of Highway 125 from Cape Breton South. Alfred Wallace MacLeod (born March 10, 1956) is a Canadian politician. He represented the electoral district of Sydney River-Mira-Louisbourg in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. He is a member of the Progressive Conservatives. Before politics MacLeod was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia in 1956. From 1976 to 1995, he worked a variety of positions with the Cape Breton Development Corporation. Political career MacLeod was first elected in an October 1995 by-election in Cape Breton West. Cape Breton East
Cape Breton East (formerly Sydney River-Mira-Louisbourg) is a provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada, that elects one member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. The riding is represented by Brian Comer of the Progressive Conservative Party. In 1925, the County of Cape Breton and neighbouring Richmond County were divided into three distinct electoral districts, one of which was named Richmond-West Cape Breton. An independent politician or non-affiliated politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or Bureaucracy, bureaucratic association.
