Argyle-Barrington
Argyle-Barrington was a provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada, that elects one member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. The riding was created in 2012 with 100 per cent of the former district of Argyle and 52 per cent of the former district of Shelburne. It consists of the Municipality of Argyle, the town of Clark's Harbour, and the Municipality of Barrington. Fishing is the economic mainstay of the area, although manufacturing and the service sector are significant employers. Chris D'Entremont
Christopher André d'Entremont (born 31 October 1969) is a Canadian politician who represents Acadie-Annapolis, previously known as West Nova, in the House of Commons since 2019, as a member of the Conservative Party. Before entering federal politics, he represented the Argyle-Barrington in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 2003 to 2019 as a member of the Nova Scotia Progressive Conservatives. d'Entremont was elected the deputy speaker and chair of Committees of the Whole in 2021 on a secret ballot. He is the first person of Acadian descent to serve as deputy speaker and the first Nova Scotian deputy speaker of the House of Commons of Canada since 1916. Argyle is a provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada which existed between 1981 and 2013 and since 2021. It elects one member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. It was created in 1981 when the district of Yarmouth was split into two separate districts. The district comprises most of the Municipality of the District of Argyle, an Acadian area occupying the eastern half of Yarmouth County. The electoral district was abolished following the 2012 electoral boundary review and was largely replaced by the new electoral district of Argyle-Barrington. It was re-created following the 2019 electoral boundary review out of Argyle-Barrington after a court challenge that also re-instated the province's two other protected Acadians ridings of Clare and Richmond, and the Black riding of Preston. The 2013 Nova Scotia general election was held on October 8, 2013, to elect members to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. Shelburne County, Nova Scotia
Shelburne County is a county in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. History Shelburne County was founded in 1784 shortly following the influx of Loyalist settlers evacuated from the newly independent United States. It was originally named Port Roseway, until it became a very busy town and was considered to be the capital of Nova Scotia, in which the name was changed to Shelburne in an attempt to please Lord Shelburne, the British Prime Minister from 1782 to 1783. The boundaries of Shelburne County were established by Governor and Council on December 16, 1785. The first Loyalists arrived in May 1783. They were faced with a somewhat bleak environment in which to make their homes. The land is rocky with acidic soil. There is also much forest.
