A senator for life is a member of the senate or equivalent upper chamber of a legislature who has life tenure. , five Italian senators out of 205, two out of the 41 Burundian senators, one Congolese senator out of 109, and all members of the British House of Lords (apart from the 26 Lords Spiritual who are expected to retire at the age of 70) have lifetime tenure (although Lords can choose to resign or retire or can be expelled in cases of misconduct). Several South American countries once granted lifetime membership to former presidents but have since abolished the practice. Arthur-Lucien Beaubien
Arthur-Lucien Beaubien (February 11, 1879 – March 21, 1971) was a Canadian politician and farmer. Born in Victoriaville, Arthabaska, Quebec, he was elected to the House of Commons of Canada in the 1921 election as a member of the Progressive Party of Canada, Progressive Party to represent the Electoral district (Canada), riding or electoral district of Provencher. He was re-elected in 1925, and in 1926 (by acclamation) and 1930 as a Liberal Progressive. He was then re-elected in 1935 as he switched to the Liberal Party.
