The following are characters who first appeared in the BBC soap opera ''EastEnders'' during 2012 listed by order of first appearance. New characters were introduced by Bryan Kirkwood, executive producer. He stepped down from the role in April. His last episode was on 13 July 2012. From 16 July, characters were introduced by his successor, Lorraine Newman. The first character to be introduced was the undertaker, Les Coker (Roger Sloman). The first regular character to be announced was Ray Dixon (Chucky Venn), the biological father of Morgan Butcher (Devon Higgs), followed by Alice Branning ( Jasmyn Banks), the daughter of Derek Branning (Jamie Foreman) and, Alice's brother, Joey (David Witts). June 2012 also saw the first birth of the year: Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks) and Michael Moon's (Steve John Shepherd) daughter, Scarlett. Janine Butcher
Janine Butcher (also Evans, Malloy and Carter) is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera ''EastEnders'', introduced in 1989. The character is played by Rebecca Michael, Alexia Demetriou and Charlie Brooks respectively. Brooks initially departed on 7 May 2004. She returned for a three episode guest stint in April 2008 before returning permanently on 18 December of that year. Brooks later took a break from September 2012 until April 2013, then departed again on 20 March 2014. In April 2021, it was announced that Brooks would reprise the role once again and return later in the year. She returned on 6 September 2021. It was announced on 24 September 2022 that Brooks had only agreed to reprise the role for 12 months and would depart again at the conclusion of her storyline, with her final scenes airing on 26 December 2022. Letitia Dean
Letitia Jane Dean (born 14 November 1967) is an English actress. She is best known for her portrayal of Sharon Watts in the BBC soap opera ''EastEnders''. An original cast member from 1985 to 1995, she reprised the role from 2001 to 2006, and again from 2012 onwards. For the role, she was awarded the British Soap Award for Outstanding Achievement in 2022. Her other television roles include ''Grange Hill'' (1983–1984), '' Brookside'' (1984), '' The Hello Girls'' (1996–1998) and '' Lucy Sullivan Is Getting Married'' (1999–2000). In 2007, she participated in the fifth series of the BBC dance competition ''Strictly Come Dancing'', finishing fourth. Sharon Rickman
Sharon Watts (also Mitchell, Rickman and Beale) is a fictional character from the BBC One soap opera, ''EastEnders'', played by Letitia Dean. Sharon was one of ''EastEnders'' original characters conceptualised by creators Tony Holland and Julia Smith. She first appeared in the first episode broadcast on 19 February 1985 as the teenage adopted daughter of Queen Vic landlords Den (Leslie Grantham) and Angie Watts (Anita Dobson). Dean originally quit the role in 1995 after ten years, with Sharon departing following the breakdown of her marriage. In May 2001, Sharon was reintroduced by producer John Yorke, before departing in January 2006.
