Armand Nicolet
Armand Nicolet is a Swiss luxury watch manufacturer located in Tramelan, a mountain village in the Bernese Jura. Its history dates to its foundation in 1875. History Armand Nicolet, the son of a watchmaker, set up his own ''Atelier d'Horlogerie'' in 1875, having successfully completed an excellent apprenticeship. By 1902, the Atelier was producing pocket watches with grand complications, such as a piece that consisted of a guilloché rose gold case, enamel dial, monopusher chronograph, complete calendar (date, day, month and moonphase indication), repeating hours, quarter hours and minutes. Examples of these historically significant pieces can be seen in the Armand Nicolet museum located in Tramelan. Armand Nicolet died in 1939 and his son, Willy Nicolet, took control of the company. Bedat & Co is a Swiss watch brand. The company was founded by Simone Bédat and her son Christian Bédat. Bedat & Co is owned by Luxury Concepts, a Malaysian firm. History Simone Bédat and her son Christian Bédat departed from the luxury Swiss watch brand Raymond Weil to create their own brand, Bedat, in 1996. The first collection of timepieces, the N°3, N°7., and Ref. 304, were presented in 1997 during BaselWorld. In 2000, Gucci Group acquired 85% of Bedat & Co with Christian Bédat serving as the chairman. Simone Bedat helped her son Pro bono and was never an employee of the company. The watches in 2000 cost on average $5,000. In 2005, Gucci became sole owner of Bedat & Co after purchasing the remaining 15% of the company. In 2006, Simone and Christian Bédat left the company. History Baume & Mercier was founded as "Frères Baume" in 1830 by brothers Louis-Victor and Célestin Baume, who opened the watch dealership in Les Bois, a village in the Jura Mountains, Swiss Jura. BALL Watch Company SA is a Swiss luxury watch company based in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. It was founded in 1891 by Webb C. Ball in Cleveland, Ohio, and is linked to American railroad history. History Before the development of railroads across the United States, there was no need for a standardization of time or any real accuracy in timekeeping. Each town kept its own local time, based on the position of the sun. When trains began to connect distant cities, it became problematic and difficult to avoid collisions. Moreover, there were no policies or standards for the watches used by the railroad employees. On April 19, 1891, a head-on collision between two trains in Kipton, Ohio resulted in several deaths. At the time, trains were using the same lines in opposite directions and had to cross each other at defined crossing points.
