Sweden
Sweden, formally the Kingdom of Sweden, is a Nordic countries, Nordic country located on the Scandinavian Peninsula in Northern Europe. It borders Norway to the west and north, and Finland to the east. Bengt Gabrielsson Oxenstierna
Count Bengt Gabrielsson Oxenstierna (1623–1702) was a Swedish soldier and statesman who served as Foreign Minister from 1680 to 1697. He ensured Sweden's neutrality during this period and moved the country away from its traditional alliance with France. Life Bengt Gabrielsson Oxenstierna was born in Stockholm on 16 July 1623. He was the eldest surviving son of Gabriel Bengtsson Oxenstierna (1586–1656) and Anna Gustafsdotter Banér (1585-1656) and had ten brothers and sisters. He was married twice to Eva Juliana Wachtmeister (1639-1666), then Magdalena Stenbock (1649-1727); the two marriages produced 18 children in all, but only nine of them lived to maturity. His marriage to Eva Juliana connected Oxenstierna to Hans and Axel Wachtmeister, senior Swedish noblemen who were both anti-French. Carl Gustaf Nordin
Carl Gustaf Nordin (born 2 January 1749 in Stockholm, died 14 March 1812 in Härnösand) was a Swedish statesman, historian and ecclesiastic. Early life In 1774, he was made docent of Gothic antiquities at Uppsala University in consequence of his treatise, "Monumenta svia-gothica vetustioris aevi falso meritoque suspecta". When he was summoned to Stockholm in 1782 by Gustav III of Sweden to edit a Swedish , half an hour's private conversation with the young priest convinced Gustav that Nordin's proper place was in the political arena. But he employed Nordin quite differently from his episcopal colleague Olof Wallqvist. While the bishop publicly defended the royal measures, Nordin became the king's private adviser. Louis De Geer (1818-1896)
Baron Louis Gerard De Geer af Finspång (18 July 181824 September 1896) was a Swedish statesman, lawyer and writer. He was the first Prime Minister of Sweden. Biography De Geer was born at Finspång Castle in Risinge parish, and was a member of the De Geer family. He was a lawyer, and in 1855 became president of the Göta Court of Appeal, or lord justice for the appellate court of Götaland. From 7 April 1858 to 3 June 1870 he was Prime Minister for Justice and again from 11 May 1875 to 20 March 1876. As a member of the nobility, he took part in the Swedish Riksdag of the Estates from 1851 onwards. From 1867 to 1878 he was the member for Stockholm in the first chamber in the New Riksdag, where he introduced and passed many useful reforms. According to his ''Minnen'' ("Memoirs") he considered himself a Liberal, in sympathy with universal suffrage. Jacob Magnus Sprengtporten
Baron Jacob Magnus Sprengtporten (10 November 1727 – 2 April 1786) was a Swedish-Finnish army officer and politician, and half-brother of Georg Magnus Sprengtporten. He is most famous as one of the leaders of the Revolution of 1772, the ''coup d'état'' which ended the age of constitutional monarchy in Sweden known as the Age of Liberty and ushered in the period of absolute monarchy known as the Gustavian era. Biography Family and early career Sprengtporten's father was Baron Magnus Wilhelm Sprengtporten, who resided at Borgå (now Porvoo) in Finland, which was then part of the Kingdom of Sweden. Magnus Wilhelm was a major in the Swedish Army and served in the army of King Charles XII during the Great Northern War. He participated in the Swedish invasion of Russia in 1708–9, and was one of the thousands of Caroleans captured in the Surrender at Perevolochna. Count Georg Magnus Sprengtporten (16 December 1740 – 13 October 1819) was a Finland–Swedish politician, count, baron, and general of the infantry. Sprengtporten is a controversial figure in the national histories of Sweden, Finland, and Russia. In Sweden, he is viewed as a traitor for defecting to the Russian court. In Finland, his legacy is divisive because he betrayed Sweden but also contributed to Finland's independence from Sweden as a patriot. In Russia, he is viewed as a statesman who played a key role in establishing the Grand Duchy of Finland within the Russian Empire. Gustaf Adolf Reuterholm
Baron Gustaf Adolf Reuterholm (7 July 1756 in Sjundeå, Nyland, Sweden (now Finland) – 27 December 1813 in Schleswig), was a Swedish statesman. He acted as the de facto regent of Sweden during the minor regency of Gustav IV Adolf of Sweden between 1792 and 1796. Early career After a brief military career he was appointed Kammarherre to Sophia Magdalena, queen consort of Gustav III of Sweden and subsequently became intimately connected with the king's brother, Charles, then duke of Södermanland. He remained in the background throughout the reign of Gustavus III, whom he constantly opposed, particularly through the clandestine Walhalla-orden which he co-founded in Sveaborg. Arvid Horn
Count Arvid Bernhard Horn af Ekebyholm (6 April 166418 April 1742) was a Swedish general, diplomat and politician, a member of the noble Horn family. He served twice as president of the Privy Council Chancellery of Sweden, privy council chancellery (1710–1719 and 1720–1738) and was one of the leading figures of the Swedish Age of Liberty. Anders Torstenson (politician)
Anders Torstenson (20 January 1641 in Stralsund – 8 November 1686 in Stockholm) was a Swedish Privy Councilor, Governor-General and Count. Biography His father, Lennart Torstensson, was a military officer with the rank of Fältmarskalk (Field Marshal), who was later ennobled as a Count. Out of five children, he was the only one to reach adulthood. Three died as infants and his brother, Gustaf Adolf (1634-1653), was killed in a duel. He was sent to Uppsala in 1649, to complete his primary education. Three years later, he served as a Page (servant), chamber page for Christina, Queen of Sweden, Queen Christina. From 1659 to 1663, he travelled abroad. Upon his return, he became a lieutenant in the Svea Life Guards, and was promoted to captain the following year. In 1665, he married Countess Christina Catharina Stenbock (1649–1719), the daughter of Admiral Gustaf Otto Stenbock.
