List Of Silent Musical Compositions
This is a list of musical works which consist mostly or entirely of silence. Theory Some composers have discussed the significance of silence or a silent composition without ever composing such a work. In his 1907 manifesto, ''Sketch of a New Esthetic of Music'', Ferruccio Busoni described its significance: After Paul Hindemith read this, he suggested a work consisting of nothing but pauses and fermatas in 1916. Classical compositions A number of classical compositions consisting primarily of silence have been composed since 1896: *''Il Silenzio: pezzo caratteristico e descrittivo (stile moderno)'' (1896) by "Samuel", a pseudonym, probably ; published in the Year 1. Vol. 1. Nº11. Supplement of the journal La Nuova Musica. *''Funeral March for the Obsequies of a Deaf Man'' (1897) by Alphonse Allais, a French writer and humorist (1854–1905); published in his ''Album primo-avrilesque'' *''Erwin Schulhoff#Musical style, In futurum'' (1919) by Erwin Schulhoff (1894–1942) *''Si ...

Silence
Silence is the absence of ambient hearing, audible sound, the emission of sounds of such low sound intensity, intensity that they do not draw attention to themselves, or the state of having ceased to produce sounds; this latter sense can be extended to apply to the cessation or absence of any form of communication, whether through speech or other medium. Remaining mute can be a symptom of mental illness. Sometimes speakers fall silent when they hesitate in searching for a word, or interrupt themselves before correcting themselves. Discourse analysis shows that people use brief silences to mark the boundaries of prosodic units, in turn-taking, or as reactive tokens, for example, as a sign of displeasure, disagreement, embarrassment, desire to think, confusion, and the like. Relatively prolonged intervals of silence can be used in rituals; in some religious disciplines, people maintain silence for protracted periods, or even for the rest of their lives, as an ascetic means of spiri ...

A Child's Guide To Good And Evil
''Volume 3: A Child's Guide to Good and Evil'' is the fourth album by the American psychedelic rock band The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band (WCPAEB), and was released on Reprise Records in May 1968. By the time the group commenced recording ''Volume 3'', guitarist Danny Harris had excused himself from the WCPAEB, reducing their numbers to a trio. As with the WCPAEB's earlier work, the album saw the band continue to blend psychedelic influences and complex studio techniques, and was marked by a bizarre fusion of innocence and malice in the band's lyrics. ''Volume 3'' featured the WCPAEB's most ambitious music to date, and the striking cover art of John Van Hamersveld, yet it failed to sell in sufficient copies to chart nationally. Background The WCPAEB had toured extensively on the Los Angeles live circuit during the first two years of their existence, but by 1968 the band stopped performing to become a studio band and focus exclusively on record production. In terms of reco ...

The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band
The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band (WCPAEB) was an American psychedelic rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1965. The group created music that possessed an eerie, and at times sinister atmosphere, and contained material that was bluntly political, childlike, and bizarre. Representing different musical backgrounds among band members, the group, at times, resembled a traditional Byrds-esque folk rock ensemble, but the WCPAEB also, within the same body of work, recorded avant-garde music marked by multi-layered vocal harmonies. Aspiring musician and scenester Bob Markley managed to join the group the Laughing Wind in exchange for his connections in the music industry and substantial bankroll. The original five-piece line-up consisted of Michael Lloyd (rhythm guitar, vocals), Shaun Harris (bass guitar, vocals), Danny Harris (lead guitar, vocals), John Ware (drums), and Markley (tambourine, vocals). The band debuted with the album ''Volume One'' in 1966 on the ...

Coil (band)
Coil were an English experimental music group formed in 1982 in London and dissolved in 2005. Initially envisioned as a solo project by musician John Balance (of the band Psychic TV), Coil evolved into a full-time project with the addition of his partner and Psychic TV bandmate Peter Christopherson (formerly of pioneering industrial music group Throbbing Gristle). Coil's work explored themes related to the occult, sexuality, alchemy, and drugs while influencing genres such as gothic rock, neofolk and dark ambient. AllMusic called the group "one of the most beloved, mythologized groups to emerge from the British post-industrial scene." After the release of their 1984 debut EP '' How to Destroy Angels'', Coil joined Some Bizzare Records, through which they released two full-length albums, ''Scatology'' (1985) and '' Horse Rotorvator'' (1986).
