Complex Network
In the context of network theory, a complex network is a graph (network) with non-trivial topological features—features that do not occur in simple networks such as lattices or random graphs but often occur in networks representing real systems. The study of complex networks is a young and active area of scientific research (since 2000) inspired largely by empirical findings of real-world networks such as computer networks, biological networks, technological networks, brain networks, climate networks and social networks. Anna Nagurney
Anna Nagurney is a Ukrainian-American mathematician, economist, educator and author in the field of Operations Management. Nagurney is the Eugene M. Isenberg Chair in Integrative Studies in the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in Amherst, Massachusetts. Previously, she held the John F. Smith Memorial Professorship of Operations Management at the Isenberg School of Management from 1998 to 2021. Biography She received a BS in Applied Mathematics, an AB in Russian Language and Literature, an ScM in Applied Mathematics, and a PhD in Applied Mathematics, all from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. Jure Leskovec
Jure Leskovec is a Slovenian computer scientist, entrepreneur and associate professor of Computer Science at Stanford University focusing on networks. He was the chief scientist at Pinterest. Jon Kleinberg
Jon Michael Kleinberg (born 1971) is an American computer scientist and the Tisch University Professor of Computer Science and Information Science at Cornell University known for his work in algorithms and networks. He is a recipient of the Nevanlinna Prize by the International Mathematical Union. Early life and education Jon Kleinberg was born in 1971 in Boston, Massachusetts to a mathematics professor father and a computer consultant mother. Anuška Ferligoj is a Slovenian mathematician, born August 19, 1947 in Ljubljana, Slovenia, whose specialty is statistics and network analysis. Randy Bush (scientist)
Randy Bush is a member of technical staff at Arrcus and a research fellow at Internet Initiative Japan. He was among the inaugural inductees into the Internet Hall of Fame in 2012, given by the Internet Society. Career Bush has been working in the computer industry since 1966. He began with Languages and Compilers but for the past few decades has been working in the Internet industry. Bush was the senior engineer of the Verio founding team in the late 1990s, and worked there for five years as the Vice President of IP Networking. Vladimir Batagelj
Vladimir Batagelj (born June 14, 1948 in Idrija, Yugoslavia) is a Slovenian mathematician and an emeritus professor of mathematics at the University of Ljubljana. He is known for his work in discrete mathematics and combinatorial optimization, particularly analysis of social networks and other large networks (blockmodeling). Education and career Vladimir Batagelj completed his Ph.D. at the University of Ljubljana in 1986 under the direction of Tomaž Pisanski. He stayed at the University of Ljubljana as a professor until his retirement, where he was a professor of sociology and statistics, while also being a chair of the Department of Sociology of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Lada Adamic is an American network scientist, who researches information dynamics in networks. She studies how network structure influences the flow of information, how information influences the evolution of networks, and crowdsourced knowledge sharing. Adamic is a director of research at Facebook, where she leads a computational social science team. She was previously an associate professor at the University of Michigan until 2013. Previously she worked in Hewlett-Packard's Information Dynamics Lab on research projects relating to network constructed from large data sets. Harrison White
Harrison Colyar White (born March 21, 1930) is the emeritus Giddings Professor of Sociology at Columbia University. White played an influential role in the “Harvard Revolution” in social networks and the New York School of relational sociology. He is credited with the development of a number of mathematical models of social structure including vacancy chains and blockmodels. He has been a leader of a revolution in sociology that is still in process, using models of social structure that are based on patterns of relations instead of the attributes and attitudes of individuals. Barry Wellman
Barry Wellman (born 1942) is a Canadian-American sociologist and is the co-director of the Toronto-based international NetLab Network. His areas of research are community sociology, the Internet, human-computer interaction and social structure, as manifested in social networks in communities and organizations. His overarching interest is in the paradigm shift from group-centered relations to ''networked individualism''. He has written or co-authored more than 300 articles, chapters, reports and books.
