List Of Neighborhoods In Chicago
There are 178 official neighborhoods in Chicago. Neighborhood names and identities have evolved due to real estate development and changing demographics. Chicago is also divided into 77 community areas which were drawn by University of Chicago researchers in the late 1920s. Chicago's community areas are well-defined, generally contain multiple neighborhoods, and depending on the neighborhood, less commonly used by residents. Austin Town Hall Park is a park at 5610 W. Lake Street (Chicago), Lake Street in the Austin, Chicago, Austin neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The site was formerly used for the town hall of Cicero Township, Cook County, Illinois, Cicero Township. Portage or portaging ( CA: ; ) is the practice of carrying water craft or cargo over land, either around an obstacle in a river, or between two bodies of water. A path where items are regularly carried between bodies of water is also called a ''portage.'' The term comes from French, where means "to carry", as in "portable". West Ridge is one of 77 Chicago community areas. It is a middle-class neighborhood located on the far North Side of the City of Chicago. It is located in the 50th ward and the 40th ward. Riverdale, Chicago
Riverdale is one of the 77 official community areas of Chicago, Illinois and is located on the city's far south side. As originally designated by the Social Science Research Committee at the University of Chicago and officially adopted by the City of Chicago, the Riverdale community area extends from 115th Street south to the city boundary at 138th Street and from the Illinois Central Railroad tracks east to the Bishop Ford Freeway. History The first non-native settler in the area was David Perriam who, in 1837, claimed land north of the horseshoe bend in the Calumet River in an area referred to as Wildwood. Albany Park ( ) is one of 77 well-defined community areas of Chicago, Illinois, United States. Located on the Northwest Side of the City of Chicago with the North Branch of the Chicago River forming its east and north boundaries, it includes the ethnically diverse Albany Park neighborhood, with one of the highest percentages of foreign-born residents of any Chicago neighborhood.
