This is a list of mayors of Kerkrade, Netherlands. In 1982 the municipality of Eygelshoven merged into Kerkrade. Mayors of Dutch municipalities are appointed by the cabinet in the name of the monarch, with advice of the city council. National Socialist Movement In The Netherlands
The National Socialist Movement in the Netherlands ( nl, Nationaal-Socialistische Beweging in Nederland, ; NSB) was a Dutch fascist and later Nazi political party that called itself a " movement". As a parliamentary party participating in legislative elections, the NSB had some success during the 1930s. Under German occupation, it remained the only legal party in the Netherlands during most of the Second World War. Party history 1931–1940 The NSB was founded in Utrecht in 1931 during a period when several nationalist, fascist and Nazi parties were founded. The founders were Anton Mussert, who became the party's leader, and Cornelis van Geelkerken. The party based its program on Italian fascism and German Nazism: however, unlike the latter, before 1936 the party was not anti-semitic and even had Jewish members. Jos Som
J.J.M. (Jos) Som (Didam, 12 October 1951) is a Dutch politician of the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA). Originally a teacher, he became an alderman and deputy Mayor of Didam. From 1994 until 1999 he was mayor of Gulpen, and from 1997 he was also acting mayor for the neighbouring municipality of Wittem. On 1 January 1999 these municipalities fused into the new municipality of Gulpen-Wittem, of which he was mayor until the end of 2000. On 16 December 2000 he became mayor of Kerkrade, succeeding Thijs Wöltgens. He was reaffirmed in 2006 and 2012. In 2018 he became acting mayor until he was succeeded by Petra Dassen-Housen. Thijs Wöltgens
Mathias Andreas Marie (Thijs) Wöltgens (30 November 1943 Kerkrade - 7 May 2008) was a Dutch politician. He served as the mayor of the Kerkrade, a town on the German border in the southeast of the Netherlands, from 1994 until 2000. The Christian Democratic Appeal ( nl, Christen-Democratisch Appèl, ; CDA) is a Christian-democratic political party in the Netherlands. It was originally formed in 1977 from a confederation of the Catholic People's Party, the Anti-Revolutionary Party and the Christian Historical Union; it has participated in all but three cabinets since it became a unitary party. Health Minister Hugo de Jonge served as Leader of the Christian Democratic Appeal from July 2020 until his resignation the following December. The Catholic People's Party ( nl, Katholieke Volkspartij, KVP) was a Catholic Christian democratic political party in the Netherlands. The party was founded in 1945 as a continuation of the Roman Catholic State Party, which was a continuation of the General League of Roman Catholic Caucuses. During its entire existence, the party was in government. In 1977, a federation of parties including the Catholic People's Party, the Anti-Revolutionary Party (ARP) and the Christian Historical Union (CHU) ran together under the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) banner.
